Weekly Wrap-Up

Happy Friday, y’all! I’m not sure quite what to say about this week. We made it to Friday and we’re grateful to be here. It’s been a rough week with some things that I’m not going to go into here. Maybe at some point, but not now. I’ll just say that parenting is not for the faint of heart and I’d love for you to keep my family in your prayers.

It hasn’t been all bad – and certainly could have been worse. God has been very gracious to us and has demonstrated His steadfast love in ways that I couldn’t have imagined. Time and again He reminded me that He’s got this, and I’m so thankful that He does.

Brian had the week off for our anniversary. We celebrated 25 years of marriage on Wednesday. I’m not really sure how since we’re clearly not old enough to have been married that long.

25 Years

I love him even more than I did 25 years ago. He has acted skeptical about that, but I told him that it must be true because I thought he hung the sun and the moon and was completely without fault back then. Now, I love him, faults and all.

If you have a child who is struggling to read, check out my interview with Marianne Sunderland, of Homeschooling with Dyslexia, over at About.com, What Is Dyslexia?

And with that, I think I’m going to leave y’all to it this week. I’m finding that it’s very difficult to write a Weekly Wrap-Up when your entire week has been consumed with something you’re not ready to talk about online.

We’re all safe and healthy, but I’d appreciate your prayers. Have a great weekend, y’all!

  1. Happy anniversary to you and Brian! Hugs and prayers to you and the family. It must have been the week for crazy….both of my girls almost drowned on Sunday. Somehow all the other stuff just didn’t seem to matter after that, you know?

    1. Wow, Joesette! Oh, wow. I just can’t imagine. I’m so glad they’re okay. Yes, weeks like this put things into a whole new perspective.

  2. Congrats on 25 years– hurray for love, that\’s wonderful! \”I thought he hung the moon and was completely without fault back then. Now I love him faults and all.\” Love this.

  3. Kris, thank you for not pretending that your life is perfect. Mine isn’t either! Parenting is definitely not for the faint of heart. Remember when the day’s biggest battle was working on taking turns?? I find parenting teens and twenty somethings a serious business. I struggle to find the balance between guiding and letting go because it is hard to watch one of mine head for a train wreck from a poor decision. But I know they will truly know God as their Rock and Deliverer when He comes through in their own messes–not because I said so, or because they read about it happening for someone else! Still, it is tough to go through!

    Be encouraged! God is faithful!

    1. Exactly. I’m sitting here nodding my head because that is exactly the season we’re in. It’s hard, but I have to say that I have never felt closer to God than those times (and this week has been one of them) when I’ve had to lean wholly on Him because I absolutely could not walk this on my own.

  4. Aww, so sorry you’ve had a difficult week. You’re so right: parenting is tough, but God’s grace gets us through the trials. You’re family is in my prayers.

  5. You’re one step ahead of me, Kris. We haven’t even started school yet! I’m observing my boys’ reaction to this. And I’m realizing that they are finding ways to learn because it’s just what’s in them. My older boy is putting coins on ebay to sell and my younger is coming up with all sorts of Lego inventions. I know this doesn’t take the place of all school subjects, but it allows me to see that God has a plan for each of their lives and what they gravitate towards is probably a big part of that plan.
My prayers are with you, Kris.

  6. We went through a very rough time with our now 30 year old daughter when she was transitioning from high school to early college years, who praise God came out the other side with a stronger faith. Keep praying and surround yourself with prayer warriors, including us out here in the internet world who care about you and your family. Congratulations on your anniversary!
