Happy Friday, y’all! It’s such a sunny, gorgeous fall day here. Days like this just make me smile. I hope you’ve had a wonderful week. Mine has had its ups and downs, but it’s ending on a great note.

I was blessed to go have lunch with a dear friend today. We’ve gotten busy and haven’t spent much time together over the last few years. Last week, I called and invited her to meet me for lunch so we could have a chance to reconnect. It was so very good to see her and talk with her.

Chili's

We’re going to make a point to get together on a more regular basis – either as families, because our husbands get along well and we have kids about the game ages, or just to have lunch. Friendships with our girlfriends are so important. We need to make sure we’re taking time to invest in them.

On the way home, I decided to bless my kids with a random act of kindness.

Krispy Kreme

They were thrilled! Seriously, it made their day. And, I was quite proud of myself – I only ordered 3, one for each of them and none for me. I think I deserve a medal or something for that.

Spicy Spaghetti Squash

I tried something new for lunch Monday – spicy spaghetti squash. It was really good and really low in calories. It makes enough to stuff both halves of the squash, so there was enough for leftovers for another day. I’m adding this one to my regular lunch menu. Next time I’ll -leave out the lime juice, though. I wasn’t crazy about the taste of it. And, of course, I left out the cilantro. Yuck!

Tuesday was a rainy, yucky day to get out and vote, but I did it anyway. It occurred to me that by the time the next election rolls around Brianna will be old enough to vote. Wow! How did that happen?

Voting

One of the big benefits to the little hole-in-the-wall voting precinct that I’m assigned to is that it’s never, ever crowded when I go. It’s just down the road from an elementary school, so it’s crowded at drop-off and pick-up times, but during the day, it’s just me, a couple of other stay-at-home moms and the retired folks. I was gone less than 30 minutes from the time I left my house.

Speaking of voting, I was nominated in a few categories in this year’s Homeschool Blog Awards. Thank you to everyone who nominated me!

The

The awards are different this year in that you can vote multiple times a day for the duration of the voting period. That’s one reason I haven’t said much about it. If you’re like me, I know you’re doing good to remember to go vote once, but I thought I’d mention it, in case you’d like to go vote. If you do, thank you!

One other thing: If you’re looking for fun stocking stuffers or gifts for nieces and nephews or homeschool friends, Pick and Draw cards are on sale. You can either buy the first game for $10 and get each additional game for $8 or you can buy four and get one free. These also make a great gift to send to your sponsored child, a few cards at a time, if you sponsor a child through Compassion International or another organization.

  1. Congratulations on your nominations!
I’ve been watching with awe how big the elections are in America. One gets completely caught up in them. In England all I notice is an increase of leaflets through our door from parties pleading for votes.(We don’t own a tv, so I miss that coverage) I think we miss out not just from a political point of view but also an experiential one.

  2. Yes, you do indeed deserve a medal! Passing up a krispy kreme is a difficult thing!
Your spicy spaghetti squash looks delicious. I have been eating a lot of spaghetti squash lately and loving it.
    God bless you 🙂

  3. Thanks for the yummy recipe! I LOATHE finding something for myself for lunch so this looks fantastic! Love your blog!

  4. I love cilantro and don’t eat doughnuts….just for the record. We don’t have Krispy Kremes here in our part of the world but I have tasted one a long time ago when we were visiting friends.

Thanks for the link up….I persevered and finished my entry. Sigh, better late than never.

    1. Well, it says something for how much I like you that after a comment like that I think we can still be friends. LOL

  5. So is the appropriate time to really test our friendship by saying that I can’t drink sweet tea either? I know, I know. Here in California there are few of us that actually know what “sweet tea” is so forgive me on that account.

    🙂

    1. You might should have held on to that little bit of information for another time. That may be the one to push me over the edge. 😉 Maybe I can chalk it up to one of those “weird California things.” I don’t know. I’ll have to think about it. 😉

    2. Okay, Barb, I’ve had some time to think and I think this could actually be a good thing. You won’t be trying to drink up all my sweet tea, I won’t be eating your yucky cilantro, and we won’t have to worry about the temptation of doughnuts. I think our friendship is safe. 😉

  6. Sometimes I wish blogs had a “thumbs up” like facebook does! 🙂 Thank you for the friendship reminder and all other wanderings today. May God bless your weekend! P.s. You totally deserve a reward for resisting Krispy Kremes for yourself!
