Happy Friday! It is truly a happy Friday for me. By the time you read this, I should be almost home from a magical week with my husband. We’ve spent the week at Disney together. Alone. Just the two of us.

It was a wonderful way to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary and I fell in love with Brian all over again.

My mom has property at Disney through the Disney Vacation Club, so she supplied the room as an anniversary gift and all we had to do was head to Florida for a week of relaxation.

Most days we got up – earlier than either of us expected, which may or may not have been partially due to the family in the room next door to us – had a little breakfast and headed to the complex gym for some cardio and weight lifting.

I never thought I’d see the day when we’d chose to workout while on vacation, but fitness has become a big part of both our lives with me trying to lose/maintain my weight-loss and Brian working on building muscle.

We don’t usually get to workout together since I run with a friend or on the treadmill at home and Brian works out at the gym at his work. It was really nice being able to enjoy working out together.

After working out, we’d hit the pool for a couple of hours, then return to the room for lunch. Afternoons were spent wandering about the variety of shops or playing games such as pool (which I actually one a couple of times), air hockey (a fairly even split of wins) or darts (I kept up better than I thought I would) in the complex game room.

In the evenings, we headed out to dinner wherever we wanted to go. We splurged on an anniversary dinner at a local steakhouse the night before our anniversary since our actual anniversary was spent at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

That was a wonderful way to spend our actual anniversary. We got to ride all our favorite rides – together.

Not only that, but we were given “Happy Anniversary” pins to wear. We had no idea what kind of special treatment wearing them would afford us – from immediate-use Fastpasses to free desserts (at lunch and dinner), we were spoiled all day.

We ate lunch at the Sci-Fi Drive-in Diner, a really cool restaurant that is set up like a ‘50’s drive-in. complete with cars that you sit in to eat.  We had dinner at Pizza Planet – you know, from Toy Story. Fun!

This is the first vacation Brian and I have had just the two of us in about 15 years. We almost canceled it because of financial concerns, but I’m so glad that we didn’t. It was an incredible way to celebrate our 20th anniversary and we created some memories that we will never forget…plus, we realized that we do still like each other! *grin*

The kids were a little jealous that we were going without them, though they were really wonderful about it, and I told them that Dad and I had to go see if we would still like each other when they were grown and gone. It was nice to see that we definitely will. It was a wonderful way to reconnect and I wouldn’t take anything for the week we were able to spend together.

  1. Hi Kris! I want to tell you how proud I am of you for making fitness such a great part of your life that you even do it on vacation! Woo hoo! I don't post many comments but I just wanted to let you know that we're cheering you on over here in Mid Michigan. One of the things I looked forward to with the new school year was sharing my first weekly wrap up of the new year. 🙂 . I always love reading these. Thank you again for hosting it.

  2. Oh my goodness!! Congratulations you two. You look as if you are on your first honeymoon – so slim, trim and happy. Awesome. Hooray for you for a whole week and celebrating.

  3. I'm so jealous!  Happy Anniversary!  You look absolutely adorable in the photos – like a teenager in love!  Congratulations on 20 years of marriage – now that's an accomplishment!

  4. Happy 20th anniversary! What a wonderful way to celebrate  your life together! And that cupcake – YUMMY!

  5. Your trip sounds wonderful! I'm happy for you, but a little jealous too. One of my girls flips out if I try to leave her for even an hour so I'm not sure if we'll ever get to go anywhere alone.

  6. How sweet! I haven't been on vacation with just my husband in 15 years too, since our honeymoon (at DisneyWorld!). Sounds like you too had a wonderful time.

  7. How sweet! Your photos made me all mushy inside (in a good way)! I'm so glad you got to enjoy a week with your man, and on a side note, you are looking fantastic!!!

  8. Congratulations!  It looks like you had a WONDERFUL time.  I'm going to pretend I didn't see your husband wearing that Alabama shirt, too!  😉

  9. Congratulations! What a way to spend your anniversary! That is really wonderful. It is always good to know that parents still love being together, alone. Many more!

  10. Sounds like a great week, Happy Anniversary!  Glad you were able to get away and reconnect with one another.  It's hard to make time for each other, but oh so important.

  11. Happy Anniversary!  Looks like you had a great time!  It's late but I'm finally linking up!  🙂

  12. Kris, Your anniversary trip sounds wonderful. What a blessing to be able to spend quality time with your husband.  Love your pictures. God bless you guys.

  13. Kris, may I just say that YOU LOOK SO STINK'N CUTE!!!  I'm glad you still like that hubby and you both had a great week.  P.S.  I want that dessert! 🙂

  14. What a fantastic anniversary trip! You look great, Kris! Congratulations again on 20 years!

  15. Thanks, Kimberly! I can't tell you how many times Brian and I commented to each other that we never thought we'd see the day when we'd enjoy working out together while on vacation.

  16. Aw, thanks, Tricia! I can't tell you how long it's been since I've enjoyed being *in* the pictures. I'm so happy to have lost so much weight and really be able to enjoy this trip with my husband.

  17. My poor, sweet youngest cried every night (she told me after we got home). I hate that she missed us so much, but it was so good for us. I can't wait till we can do something like that again. I hope you'll get to before too long.

  18. Oh, thank you, Jamerrill! As I commented to someone else, it's been a long time since I've enjoyed being in the pictures. We were totally stalking the Disney photographers so that we could get some pictures of us together.

  19. Kris-you look HAWT! So pretty and you look so happy. Glad you had that opportunity with your hubby…and I'm a little bit jealous. My hubby and I have yet to get away by ourselves in 9 years of parenting. We could go, but no one wants to take all of our kiddos for that long.

  20. Happy Anniversary (belated…)
I can't wait for my twentieth anniversary. This year it will be fifteen 🙂 We are planning to do something BIG for the big 2-0! 🙂
Hope your weekend is great and your coming week, too! Looking forward to next weeks wrap up.

  21. Exactly! It's good to know that the next 20 years, many spent without the kids, will be good years, eh? I tell my kids that their dad and I have to do somethings with just the two of us or when the time comes for it to be just us, we won't know each other very well!
I don't know how old you are (and you don't have to tell *wink*) but you two look like you could do another 40 years at least!

  22. Happy anniversary! Looks like a wonderful trip with a lot of good memories. Here's to another 20 years for you guys. 🙂
