It has been a really long, though, enjoyable day. It was my husband’s company picnic at a local amusement park. I should have gotten the Wrap-Up together on Thursday night, but I foolishly thought I’d have time to get it together on Friday morning. Not so! We arrived at the park earlier than ever before since Brian is usually among the last to leave on Fridays. He got off early today and the kids were ready to go.

We couldn’t have asked for a better day! The weather was absolutely perfect. It was cool and overcast all day, but it never rained…*and* we managed to get there right as the parking at the farthest end of the parking lot had filled up and the men directing traffic parked us right at the entrance! We had a wonderful day hanging out as a family and riding all the rides and I am completely exhausted.

The rest of the week went smoothly, but we didn’t accomplish much of the schoolish stuff I had planned. On Monday, Josh and Brianna did a page in their math workbooks while Megan played math Mah Jong. We started our Bible lesson and worked on our memory verse and I read aloud the first chapter of Where the Red Fern Grows. We started our relief painting project, but ran out of glue and that was in for anything educational this week.

I had planned to give the kids Tuesday off to try to ease them into a light summer schedule. The most interesting thing that happened on Tuesday was when the roof guy came to finish a few things on our roof. I went outside while he was out there and discovered this giant mushroom in the yard:

I had fun playing around and making some unique pictures of it:

I’m sure the roofer thought I was crazy…or, you know, a weird, unsocialized homeschool mom.

Wednesday, Brian had a doctor’s appointment and the in-laws kept the kids so that I could go with him. We didn’t manage to get anything done before they got here, then, we were all gone the rest of the day.

Thursday, Josh had a friend over, so we didn’t attempt to do anything. Megan had her last ballgame of the season and, wouldn’t you know? It was the best game they’ve played all year! And, of course, today was the company picnic.

See why we don’t school year ’round?

  1. What?! Is this the thing for companies to do? We just had my hubby's company picnic at our local amusement park last weekend. I've been so glad that we finished school by Memorial Day.

  2. Wow! That's a big mushroom. It reminds me of a kids story but I can't remember the name of it. Anyway, a mouse could live under there.

Love the relief painting. What a great idea. I will have to try that one. 🙂

LW sounds like it was a blast too. We were not as fortunate when we went. Thunderstorms rolled in and they closed a lot of the rides. So glad that didn't happen to you. 🙂

BTW, I miss you commenting on my blog.

  3. LOL, Love the mushroom photos. I do stuff like that and my family thinks I'm nuts 🙂

Sounds like a great summer week to me!

I linked directly to my WWU post.

  4. Thanks for hosting this.
Sounds like you had a good week. We also had workers in our house this week and I'm sure they thought we were a weird unsocialized homeschool family too.
I hope some others join in it's fun to hear about everyones week. 🙂

  5. …and thank you so much for having Josh's friend over 🙂

It was a major burden relieved to know that he was enjoying himself and being fed!
