Seriously, why do I ever think we’re going to get much school done in the summer? Every week I have good intentions and every week Friday rolls around and we’ve done nothing. I don’t even have pictures this week. I could have pictures, but, well, I’m feeling rather lazy. So, what did we do this week?

Well, we got Brian a new, fancy, plasma TV for the living room for Father’s Day. That meant that we had to do something with our giant dinosaur of a big screen TV. So, in a last minute agreement, Brian got to move it to the basement and I got to bring my snakes upstairs. Saturday night, we tossed a blanket over the TV, wrapped ropes around it and manged to power play it down the full flight of stairs to our basement.

Let me just say, that thing is heavy, but even I will admit when I’m wrong…it’s awesome having it in the basement! Playing Rock Band on the giant TV is so much fun! And, Josh has had a blast playing his Star Wars X-box games on it. Everything is life-size.

We spent a couple of days getting the new TV mounted over the fireplace (with help from my dad that probably saved Brian and I from a mid-week trip to divorce court!) and the furniture rearranged. The TV was a lot harder to get installed than it sounded like it would be. However, it’s done now, the picture is incredible and I love the way our living room looks without the giant TV in the way. A recliner is next on the list…eventually.

I spoke to the cable company three days in a row about my Internet access this week. Tuesday and Wednesday, I thought it was fixed after the call, but it went out again. When I got up Thursday, both the cable and the Internet were out, so I called again. I was really, really irritated, but the lady who answered was very nice and let me know that there was an outage in the area. I was still really annoyed, but, what are you going to do? However, as I was ending the call, the lady started in on her sales pitch…

Cable lady: I notice that you don’t have cable telephone. Do you use a land-line or just use your cell phone?

Me: I use both, but I’m really not interested in cable telephone.

Cable lady: I notice you don’t have XYZ sports package. With sports season right around the corner, maybe you’d like…

Me (interrupting, but trying to be nice): Look, I’m really, really irritated right now and I know it’s not your fault, so I’m trying not to take it out on you, but I’m calling you because I currently don’t have the cable packages that I am paying for. Now is not a good time to try to sell me something else.

Cable lady (sounding slightly offended): Well, I know, but I’m just doing my job.

Me: I realize that, which is why I’m tying to be polite, but for the last three days I haven’t had reliable access to the services that I’m already paying for, so just put me down as “no” for whatever questions you have left.

I mean, seriously, hello?? I’m calling because my Internet hasn’t worked right in three days and you’re going to try to sell me something else? Thankfully, it all came back on a short time later and has worked pretty well ever since.

Thursday was an exciting day. Brianna had an orthodontist appointment and, finally, after being in braces much longer than was anticipated, she’s getting her braces off! Her appointment to get them off isn’t until late July, but it may take me until then to stockpile all the things Brianna wants in a goody basket to celebrate — popcorn, Doritos, bubble gum, jaw breakers, caramel…all the things she couldn’t chew with braces on.

After we left the orthodontist’s office, we drove to a friend’s house where she sold me, for half-price, her barely used copy of Teaching Textbooks Pre-Algebra and a brand-new copy of Algebra I. She bought it and her daughter didn’t like it. Since we were planning on using Teaching Textbooks next year, I totally jumped at such a great deal.

After we got home, Brian’s parents came and picked Josh and Megan up for their turn to stay the weekend. So, I, being the opportunist grateful daughter that I am, asked my mom if she didn’t want to take Brianna to her house to visit for the weekend. So, she is! Today, Brianna and I are going to run around and do some girl things together, then, Brianna is going home with my mom after she gets off from work and Brian and I will have the weekend together. Yay! I’m not sure what we’ll do, but I’m sure it will involve driving around in his car with the top down and renting some movies to watch on the new TV.

  1. We have our TV over the fireplace too, love it! There should also be a law against trying to sell you something when you are calling to complain LOL!!

  2. Very exciting to get the Teaching Textbooks at such a great deal. I love when things like that work out!

Can't wait til the bracesless pics. 🙂

  3. Hi, I'm Michelle! This is my first time reading your blog — my husband sent me over because he loved your title so much and thought I'd be interested in your Weekly Wrap-Up meme (I am!) Sounds like you had a pretty good week!

Don't feel badly about not having done any school; we went on what was supposed to be a "short break" in April while my daughter was being diagnosed with ADD and we're JUST getting back to it.

Anyway, nice to "meet" you! Hope you'll drop by my Weekly Wrap-Up. 🙂

  4. I am so glad the code is working for you! I really didn't get much feedback when I wrote the post, so I wasn't sure if if helped anyone but me. 🙂

  5. Hi, Michelle! I'm glad you joined in this week. I tried to leave you a comment on your blog, but my security software kept giving me an error message. Hopefully, you'll see this and feel welcome to join in again.

  6. How exciting to be getting the braces off! Gianna asks me every appt when she will get hers off. 🙂

Directv calls us all the time wanting us to add to our package. Never had them try to sell us something when we were havign problems though. That's crazy. We had trouble with our internet this week too.

  7. Kris, if you don't mind would you drop me an email with details about the error message you received, like what software you are using, what the error said, and what you were doing when you got the error (trying to open my site, trying to post, etc.) I'd like to try to fix it if I can.

  8. I can't believe that they were trying to sell you more cable stuff when you were calling about a problem! That is just insane!
