Weekly Wrap-Up: The One Before the Race

Yay!  It’s Friday!  And, a gorgeous Friday at that.  A little cold outside, but finally some sunshine after a gloomy-looking week.  Like most of you, we’ve been stunned by the devastation in Japan today and have been anxiously watching the news to see how Hawaii and the West Coast will fare.  We’re praying for all those affected by the earthquake and resulting tsunamis.

Brianna was thrilled to have a week off from Spanish on Monday.  We took the opportunity to take a field trip to the zoo since Josh and Megan’s science lab called for the trip to observe a variety of birds.  It was a little cool, but that was okay with us because the animals tend to be more active when it’s cooler.


By Tuesday, the house was a disaster again, but I didn’t want to take another life skills day so soon.  I was afraid the kids would start making messes on purpose to have a break from bookwork.  Yeah, my kids think like that.

So, we spent the first part of Tuesday working on getting the house back in order before getting a late start on school.  We wound up working until nearly 5:00, but we got everything, including housework, done that needed to be done that day, so it was a great feeling of accomplishment.  For me, at least.

Brian took the rest of the week off.  We continued with school while he got some things done around the house.  One of the things that we did this week was rearrange our basement.  Now, we have a workout room and a sitting/game room.  I really like the way it turned out.  I’ll probably post pictures of the workout room on my weight-loss blog next week.

Speaking of my weight-loss blog, I hit my goal last week!  I have officially lost a little over 70 pounds!  I was very excited to reach that milestone.  Tomorrow will be another milestone for me – my first 5K race.  I’m actually really excited about it right now.  We’ll see how I feel about it when I’m actually running it.

Oh, and we also did a fun science experiment on Thursday about how duck’s feathers work to keep them warm and dry.   It involved oil, water, and paper bags.

  7. Congratulations on your goal! I have yet to um, begin working on mine for my weight…Guess I should do that one on Monday…

    And I like that experiment, may have to do that one with my kiddos this summer at Grandma's. Grandma lives across the street from a pond with ducks and that would be neat for them (the girls, not the doing that to the ducks.)

    5k in February. It was so much fun!

  10. I saw the photos of you 5K – awesome and incredilbe, fantastic job! It sounds like you guys had a week full of accomplishments…I haven't had one of those in far too long. Love the photo of Megan at the zoo with her reflection in the glass – just beautiful!
