Do you hear it?  Can you see it?  It’s me and my kids cheering and doing cartwheels!!  We’re officially finished with school for today, which means we’re officially on spring break!  Even my husband is taking off next week.  We have nothing planned, which – honestly? – sounds just fine to me.

Poor Brianna does still have to do her Spanish class on Monday.  I’d let her take off, but the whole class is behind and the instructor has been so gracious to add a couple of weeks to get them caught up without charging any additional tuition and she’s working so hard with the students.  I’d feel like I was thumbing my nose at her efforts if Brianna didn’t show up on Monday.

Brianna also has her final speech class on Thursday evening, but I think she’s actually looking forward to that.  They’re having a banquet and all the parents and grandparents get to come and hear their final speech – and enjoy the taco bar that the kids decided on for the meal.

This week has been one of those “tying up loose ends before taking a break” kind of week.  Nothing too exciting, just finishing units and library books and such.  The week we resume school, though, will mean big changes for Brianna.  She’ll be starting Switched on Schoolhouse!

That’s the big change I’ve referred to a couple of times lately.  We’ll be reviewing SOS over the course of the coming year (one review before the school year ends and a few scattered over the year once we start the 2011-2012 school year).  Brianna has been doing her math online with ThinkWell this year and that’s really gone well for her, so I’m thinking that a computer-based curriculum may be the best fit for her right now.  Depending on how it goes, I’m seriously considering putting everybody on it next year.

I had some big news yesterday.  Remember my post, The Public School Parents’ Guide to Homeschool Parents?  It was published in a real, honest-to-Pete print magazine, The Homeschool Handbook!  You can check out the online version, if you don’t receive the magazine.  My article is on pages 8-9!  I’m so excited!

I want to take a moment thank our newest sponsor, Speekee, for supporting Weird, Unsocialized Homeschoolers.  If you’re looking for a Spanish language program for your kids, be sure to check them out and see what you think.

That’s about the extent of the excitement around here this week, other than our excitement to be off next week.  How was your week? Be sure to post about it and sign up with MckLinky. 3. Hooray!! Congrats! We are just winding down our spring break. As always, it went by way too fast. But we had a simple week of doing things around home – backyard, park, visiting family and regular ol' fun.

  4. Happy Spring Break!

Thanks for hosting this event and we got our post done in a reasonable fashion this week. 🙂

  7. Awesome news about your article! We took our break this past week and, like you, planned nothing major. But we had a good time with friends, and I had a good time relaxing and reading. Now I feel a bit refreshed! Enjoy!

  8. Hi Kris! I'm looking forward to reading your reviews on SOS. That's one I'm considering for the high school years. (My oldest is a rising 7th grader.)

I was wondering if you could answer one question/give me some input on the Thinkwell Math. My oldest currently uses TT Math 7, and is about to begin TT Pre-Algebra. I'd been reading reviews and looking closely at Thinkwell though instead. I am hoping you can shed some light on why you've chosen it over TT Math when you use it and have used it in the past?

I really appreciate your input and your time to shed some light on this for me! Have a wonderful weekend!
