Weekly Wrap-Up: The One So Boring That It Doesn’t Even Have a Good Title

Happy Friday!  I just love Fridays.  I’m looking forward to a weekend that will be a nice mix of chilling out and preparing for next week.  I have managed to keep the mountain of laundry under control this week and the house relatively well-maintained, so I won’t have to spend all day Saturday cleaning.  Nice.

Thankfully, after last week, it’s been one of those really nice, low-key weeks — not much fun to read or write about, but way more fun to live than the crazy, hectic ones.  Brianna had her Spanish class on Monday and it went pretty well.  I’m looking forward to finding out how she did on her quiz.  She had a much better attitude about Spanish this week, leading me to realize what the problem had been all along:  she was drowning and didn’t know how to ask for help.  Since I’ve started working with her on vocabulary every afternoon her attitude toward and confidence about Spanish class has improved immeasurably.

Tuesday was a relatively calm day at home, followed by going to see my niece play soccer that evening.  It was the first time I’ve gotten to see her play.  Oh, my goodness!  I could have sat that forever watching those little kids if it hadn’t been so cold.  They were so cute!  I don’t think either team (6-7-year-olds) scored a single goal the whole time we were there (because, honestly, I was doing as much talking to my sister as I was watching the game), but they were hilarious.  I finally figured out that I think most of them were kicking the ball out of play on purpose just so they could take turns throwing it back in.

Wednesday was the highlight of the week for me — a really exciting mail day!  I got three new t-shirts, from two different sources, in the mail.  Well, they weren’t totally new.  They were replacement shirts for some of my favorites that no longer fit me because they’re too big!  I replaced my X-large shirts with mediums!  I ordered a Twilight parody Christian t-shirt and a couple of shirts from Great Homeschool T-Shirts.  Then, as if that weren’t exciting enough, the UPS man brought a new book that I’ll be reviewing soon.  I just love fun mail days.

Thursday was another mostly-at-home day, followed by a volleyball game that evening.  Only the varsity team played this week, but they were phenomenal!  They have improved throughout the year and I think last night they played their best games yet, even though they didn’t win.  (They have won several games this year, for the record.)  They played one of the toughest teams we’ve played this year and in each game in the set, they only lost by 2 or 3 points.  I was so hoping they’d win, though, because I overheard the coach of the opposing team telling her girls that they “should win pretty easily tonight.”  Grrr!  I hate that attitude!  They won, but I don’t think they did so as easily as they’d expected.  So there.

Today, we’re wrapping up school for the week, which has consisted of the basics, plus preparing for our homeschool group’s annual Around the World Day.  This year, we’re tackling two countries for the first time (we usually just do one as a family); Brianna is representing Cuba (she wanted a Spanish speaking country since she’s taking Spanish) and Josh and Megan are representing Scotland.  I love preparing for Around the World Day because it gives us a fun break from our usual studies.

  1. Hey Kris,
Oh yeah congratulations on those medium tee shirts, too satisfying and very fun to hear. Another good week from your place too. I meant to thank you for your weekly wrap up it's a huge fun thing for me and for being so kind to post on our century book pages using IEW. My love/hate relationship with our writing curriculum is still ongoing with the love winning out mostly these days. Here's too a fantastic weekend for you too!

  2. Now that is a really funny comic! I love Farside especially the ones where dogs are talking.

I like to have normal get-it-done sorts of weeks. They may not make for exciting wrap-up posts but they get the job done.

    Thanks for hosting.

  3. Around the world day sounds like a whole lot of fun! And on the Spanish…I've found that often homeschooling is learning what our role is as a teacher/mother. Which is constantly changing. Glad it's better this week.

  4. Around the World Day sounds like a lot of fun!! LOL at the cartoon – Far Side is my all-time favorite comic strip.

    Blessings,
    Kym

  5. Those occasional "boring" weeks are the ones that help us keep our sanity! Sounds like a productive, but stress free week to me!

  6. The "tutored" comment and cartoon had me giggling. 🙂 So glad your daughter is feeling better about Spanish – it's amazing what a little extra attention can do. Congratulations on those MEDIUM size t-shirts – way to go!! 🙂

  7. Hi Kris,
Would you mind also purchasing the domain "wierdunsocializedhomeschoolers.com" because I seem to have some sort of impairment when I try to spell weird the correct way? This would avoid me having to type your blog address into the search engine twice.
    (totally kidding. thanks for hosting)
    🙂
    Julie

  8. LOL love the cartoon! And YAY for the t shirts, woo hoo!! I'm glad you got to have a rather low key week, although two games and a Spanish class is nothing to sneeze at 🙂
