Have you ever hosted a weekly meme? Have you ever gotten busy and sidetracked and completely forgotten the weekly meme that you host? Yeah, me either. {ahem}

So, anyway…it’s been a week of tying up loose ends around here. I don’t like starting something new right before a long break, so we had a couple of light days rather than starting any new history topics.

We did plug away at science, but I’m planning to do some review in January. That will be okay, though, because it’s a high-interest topic – the moon, leading into a study of the solar system.

So, now we are officially on Christmas break. We always stop before Josh’s birthday and resume after the new year. Since his birthday just happens to fall on a Saturday this year, we got a full week in before Christmas break.

It’s hard to believe, but my boy turns 12 tomorrow. I’m not sure what’s harder to believe – the fact that he’s already 12 or the fact that he’s only 12. I can’t believe how fast the years have gone by, but he’s several inches taller than me, outweighs me by about 20 pounds, and could easily pass for 15.

The big excitement at our house this week (sometimes it doesn’t take much) was the unexpected purchase of a new microwave. After over 20 years, the microwave that my grandmother gave us when we got married finally gave out.

I felt a bit sentimental about that. I am really liking the new microwave, though. It’s got a lot of nifty features and it’s quite a bit bigger. I can fit a whole 9X13 casserole dish in there and it still has room to turn. Somehow, though, I’m betting this one doesn’t last 20 years.

Now that we’re on break, I can start working on my to-do list, which includes things like finalizing my presentation for the 2:1 Conference, at which I’ll be speaking in April, and tweaking the areas in our school with which I’m not fully satisfied at the moment.

I’ll be working on language arts and history, primarily. I like our history base, for the most part, but it needs some tweaking, and I need to tweak our weekly writing assignments.

Then, of course, there will be the usual things like finishing up my Christmas shopping and wrapping gifts. I have a feeling that, as usual, our break won’t be as relaxing as I am envisioning it at this moment.

  1. He DOES look longer than 12! My son will turn 13 – teen!! – in February, but I still have about an inch on him! LOL (I'm 5'7".) At the rate he's been eating and growing lately he might just be taller by February!

  2. Happy Birthday to your son!  May God bless him with many more years of love, health and happiness!  He is a very handsome young man!

The new microwave looks pretty cool!  I'm sure you will have fun trying out all of the new features!

    Many blessings,
    Lisa

  3. That's okay, I forgot to link up earlier so we are even. 🙂

I am due for some mid-year tweaking of schedules myself but we are going to do one more week of school before officially being off from our studies.

Thanks for hosting the link-up. Have a great break!

  4. Everyone is allowed to forget every once in a while–especially when it's Christmas!   All my kids are taller than me now–it's a weird feeling,   Thanks for the link-up.  I enjoy it every week.

  5. Thanks for making me feel better. We were headed out for dinner and grocery shopping when I remembered. Oops!

I only have one kid who is still shorter than me…but she's only 10. Sometimes it stinks to be short. lol

  6. "I’m not sure what’s harder to believe – the fact that he’s already 12 or the fact that he’s only 12." I understand that sooo well! I always do that with my older son: are you really JUST turning 18? He always seems to be older than he actually is.

  7. Oh my, they grow up so fast don't they!  I have forgotten way to many "little" details lately, so don't feel bad.  Thanks for hosting the weekly wrap-up and enjoy your new microwave!
