I don’t know how your Friday is, but we’re officially on Christmas break today, so ours is awesome!  Not only are we on Christmas break, but it’s a very special day in our house.
Our only boy, Josh, turns 11 today and this post was published at 9:43 AM, the moment when Josh officially turned 11.

I’m posting early today because we’ve got a busy, fun-filled day planned.  Josh doesn’t know it yet, but we’re headed to Chuck E. Cheese for lunch with a couple of his friends.  That place isn’t too bad on a weekday for lunch.  He’ll be excited.  I’m not telling him until the first friend shows up at the door.  I can’t wait to see the look on his face!  And, of course, there will be a DQ ice cream cake in our future today.

This week has just been a week of getting in the basics and finishing up our Christmas unit, which we all really enjoyed.  It was really neat combining the books that I mentioned last week because they would often repeat the same information in different ways, which, as you know, really makes things stick.

Even though we’re on Christmas break, Brianna has one last Spanish class on Monday, but it’s primarily a Christmas party, so you can’t complain too much about that.

I’m hoping to spend my time off putting together a few homemade Christmas presents that I’ve seen posted online and thought were really cute.  If you’re not related to me, you can look at them here and hereSeriously, Mom and Megan (the cousin, not the daughter), don’t peek; it will spoil the fun.

I’m also going to be working my way through the Grocery University material, which I just received last night to review for you!  I’m very excited about that!  I used to do coupons pretty hot and heavy a couple of years ago – I even had my own frugal stuff blog.  Then, the coupon deals got to be less appealing and it was just a lot of work for not so much return – I was one of those people the Grocery University lady mentions who had closets full of free shampoo and toothpaste, but who wasn’t really saving on their grocery bill – so I quit.

Now, though, my grocery bill has skyrocketed, so I’ve got to do something.  I hope to listen to and read through all the material over Christmas break and get started putting the ideas into practice in late-December or early-January and I’ll be blogging about my progress as I go along, so you can see how I do.

Now, off to have some fun with the birthday boy and the rest of the family.  Have a great weekend!

  1. Eager to hear about the coupon stuff. One of those things I keep saying I should do, but haven't. So I'll just let YOU do the research and fill me in on all the good stuff. 😉

  2. Happy Birthday to Josh – sounds like a great day is ahead!

I hear you on the huge grocery bills; I'm interested to hear what you'll be doing and how it goes!

Thanks for hosting! Have a wonderful break. 🙂

  3. We've been on break since Thanksgiving week and it's been wonderful. We started August 2nd so we could take an extra-long break at Christmas. I've been doing lots of projects around the house and doing a lot of planning/organizing/evaluating related to our homeschool. Enjoy your break – I am!

  4. We have one more week so I am a little envious of today being your last day. 🙂 (A good kind of envious)

We lost all of our stores that were giving good coupon deals so I now stick to shopping between two stores and finding the best deals and using our pantry to our best advantage. My family doesn't even notice we are eating frugally anymore.

    Thanks for hosting the wrap-up.

  5. Two great things in one day – your son's birthday and the beginning of Christmas break! Your day sounds like a lot of fun. Thanks again for hosting!

  6. Happy birthday to your son and happy Christmas break!

I need to check out the Grocery University. I sound like you with couponing!

  7. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO JOSH!! I hope he enjoys his day completely!

I love your gift ideas both are wonderful, I made the "sweet" <-code in case the recipients read comments 🙂 one once and it was heavenly. And I love
Infarrantly Creative's too, awesome idea- I met her at Blissdom, she was a sweetie.

Anyway, I'm excited to see your grocery review. I was saying to hubs last week how bad the grocery bill has become. I'm trying to keep it down but it keeps going up. We eat meatless meals at least twice a week and I make our own dinner breads and rolls, it's ridiculous. And they say it will keep going up for a while. It's a little scary.

  8. I don't have a Weekly Wrap-Up this week because we are getting ready with new curriculum, but I wanted to stop by anyway. I am having a great giveaway offered by Crayola. I hope you will visit, and enter. Thank you!

  9. Hope Josh had a wonderful birthday and that y'all are enjoying your break!
Can't wait to hear about Grocery University. I really got into couponing a year or so ago, and like you said, it began to be too much work for too little return, so I gave it up.
    Y'all have a Merry Christmas!
