I thought I might as well post this Weekly Wrap-Up early since we’re on summer break and won’t do anything of great excitement today that I’ll want to include…which is just fine with me!  I love the lazy, laid-back days of summer.

We have really enjoyed our summer break so far!  It’s been busy, but the first week is always like that for us — catching up things that have fallen by the wayside during our last busy weeks of school and preparing for Brianna’s birthday.  Next week things should settle down a bit.  I sure hope so because my workout schedule has really suffered this week.  I’ve got to get on a good summer schedule.

Monday and Tuesday were spent catching up on housework and laundry.  Fun times.  Wednesday was Brianna’s birthday.  I can’t believe my baby is 15.  *sigh*  I took her (and Josh and Megan, of course) out to lunch at — where else? — Chick-fil-A.  Hey, I didn’t have much money, but I had a coupon.  Sometimes you have to take what you can get.

Brian came home earlier than she was expecting him to surprise her with a movie for her birthday.  Because her birthday is at the start of summer, there are always good new movies coming out, so that’s something they do every year.  This year it was Iron Man 2.  After they came home we went out to her pick for dinner — Olive Garden.

Thursday, we did this:

In case you can’t tell, Brianna’s hair now has blue streaks.  She loves it.  People have asked Brian and I if we’re crazy, but I don’t think we are.  We both just see it as one of those teenage, self-expression things and we both have the attitude that, “It’s hair.  It’ll grow out.”  I was really impressed that we were in complete agreement about this.  Brian didn’t even bat an eye.  Blue hair?  Sure.  I love that man.

Also on Thursday, I ordered my birthday present — a fancy-schmancy camera that I’ve been drooling over for months.  I wanted one last Christmas, but I got my bodybugg, which I wanted and needed more.  I was thinking more along the lines of this upcoming Christmas for the camera, but, hey, you only turn 40 once…and we found a good deal.  I hope it gets here on or before my birthday (June 7).  I opted for free shipping, though it takes longer, but I’m hoping…

I hit the 50 pound mark on my weight loss this week!  You may have noticed the new profile picture.  I thought a new one was in order for such an exciting milestone.  If you’d told me last Thanksgiving that I’d be 50 pounds lighter by my birthday I’d never have believed you.  Now, I believe anything is possible.  Fifty pounds down, forty-five to go!  I’m working to have the other 45 off by this Thanksgiving.  That would be exciting to reach my weight loss goal in a year.  Here’s a little before and after:

I can’t even describe how much better I feel, both physically and mentally.  I wish I’d done this years ago.

I found out this week about a walking tour of our city that is available on Thursday mornings throughout the summer.  It’s a guided tour of historic sites, with facts shared about the city’s history along the way.  I’m so excited about it!  I want to wait until I get my camera to go because it sounds like a wonderful opportunity to take some great photos.  My kids aren’t as excited about the tour as I am.  When I told them about the tour, all three of them complained about having to “learn” and “do school” during the summer.  Don’t you feel sorry for them?

Pray for me tonight.  Brianna is having a slumber party.  I’m not sure exactly how many teenage girls are going to be in my house.  I’m trying not to think about it too much.  😉

  1. Good for you on the weight loss!!! Keep up the good work. I think the blue hair looks pretty cool. My little Sassy sometimes talks about wanting pink. But she's only 8, so she may have to wait a bit. 🙂

  2. Kris! You look fantastic! I won't be at CSTHEA this summer, so I won't get to see you in person, but what a change so far! I am so excited about your success!

Blue hair? I'm with you: Hair grows. 🙂 Enjoy the party tonight!

  3. Happy Birthday to you and Brianna! My daughter is also getting blue hair! She asked me last week if she could do it and I told her yes too! Not sure what we were thinking, but my husband was also in agreement. She's so excited.

  4. Apparently, blue hair isn't for old ladies anymore. 😉 (just kidding…soem things are just not that big of a deal)

As for the weight loss…I'm pg and trying to keep baby's weight down via diet so I'll have a better chance at VBACing, so I'm right there w/ ya…sort of. You've done a wonderful job!

  5. Your daughter is a super cute girl; she rocks that blue hair well.

Also, you look FANTASTIC! Congratulations on reaching your weight loss goal!

  6. We finished school last Friday, and my kids are already yelping that they are bored. Ahh! Just like your kids, they didn't think that the walking tour sounded like something they wanted to do. Maybe if we plan for the same day we can add to the excitement by making it something of a weird, socializing opportunity. We also have TN Aquarium passes that nobody wants to utilize in the summer, you know, when we're not "supposed" to be doing anything that resembles education.

  7. Happy Birthday to the blue haired girl! And congrats on the before and after pictures and weight loss. What an inspiration you are 🙂

  8. Kris, you look amazing. Way to go!

As for the hair…I always take these things as signs that the parents know what is worth fighting over and what is not. Hair, of all things, falls into the Is Not category. Good for you.

  9. Love the shade of blue!!

And you didn't tell us what kind of camera? All of us camera junkies want to know.

    Happy Birthday to you both!

  10. Happy birthday to the birthday girl! And Kris- you look fantastic! Way to go with your weight loss-it is awesome!

  11. YAY! Good for you! What an awesome accomplishment!

Love the blue hair! When I was a teen, my mom let me try different hair colors, experiment and have fun! It was the best & I hope to do that for my girls as well. She looks so happy 🙂

  12. @ Christine — Yes, she is happy. She loves her hair.

And, everyone, thank you so much for your encouraging comments about my weight loss. It's been a surprising, exciting journey.

  13. Congrats on the weight loss! What an inspiration. I need to get on the bandwagon this summer.

Great attitude about the hair. My husband was the Jr high pastor at our church for 5 years. Things coloring hair and other self expressions are about the heart. If she loves Jesus, respects you and wants to have a little fun. Whoo Hoo! Go for it!

Happy Birthday to your girl and on your upcoming birthday.

  14. Congrats on hitting the 50 lb mark!
My kids are also complaining about doing "school" during the summer:)

  15. You are an inspiration to me…I need to get up and start waling again…thank you for sharing your weight loss journey so openly and and honestly with us all!

P.S. I hope no Smurfs were harmed in the making of the birthday girl's hair dye… ;0)

  16. Kris – you are such an inspiration. You look fantastic!

Isn't it exciting to get a new camera? I am just in love with mine. I can't wait to hear all about your when you get it!

Thanks so much for linking up to Mingle Monday. I hope y'all have a great Memorial Day.
