Weekly Wrap-Up: The One with an Excessive Amount of Whining

Is it Friday? I’m not really sure. All I know is, I’ll be glad when it’s Sunday. My girls have been in plays – two girls, two different plays, two separate locations, for the last two months.

Brianna’s play practice wasn’t too bad since a friend was in it, too, and we shared carpooling. Some of Megan’s practices overlapped, though, which meant that Brian might have to take one girl while I took the other.

The practices have been at 6:00. I don’t know what time y’all eat dinner, but for us that has meant either rushing to eat supper, clean the kitchen and get one or both girls to play practice or eating at 8:00 or 9:00.

Brianna’s play performance was the first two weekends of the month. Megan’s has been this week.

So she had practice Monday and Tuesday; full dress rehearsal Wednesday; matinee performances yesterday and today (which meant she had to be there by 8…in the morning! I know some of you don’t feel sorry for me at all, but those of you who are late sleepers like me feel my pain, right?); and evening performances last night (the only one she’s missed since I didn’t know about it until 9:00 Wednesday night), tonight and tomorrow night; and an afternoon performance tomorrow.

Did you make it through that paragraph? I don’t know how I’ve made it through this week! I’m going to do cartwheels after the curtain call tomorrow night. Except, I don’t know how to do a cartwheel. I think I can learn, though.

On top of that, I had a doctor’s appointment on Monday. It was in a town 30 minutes away. It was rescheduled from two weeks ago because the doctor I see was “no longer with this practice.” Except, when I got there, there was a big sign on the check-in window telling patients about their brand-new location. Want to know where it’s at? About 10 minutes from my house. Staffed by the doctor who was no longer with their office.

Really? You couldn’t have given me that tidbit over the phone?

So, they numbed my finger and dug a crater into it. Seriously, you can’t imagine how big and deep this hole is – they removed an extremely painful wart that came up a couple of months ago. I’d rather have just had the runny-nose-type virus, thank you very much. I would post a picture, but it’s gross. And big. And black.

So, anyway, numbed finger. They told me to take pain reliever for the next 24-hours. They didn’t give me any to take then. And, the van broke down on the way home. Brian had to come get me. Did I mention I was about 30 minutes away from home? With a big hole in my finger? With no pain meds?

Yeah, Monday was a good day. I was very thankful for our built-in catch up day, though it didn’t do us much good this week since we had a play matinee to attend today. Somehow, we managed to stay mostly caught up.

I’m taking Monday off. That is all.

  1. Now that has just a bit of the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad thrown in there this week! Play practice sure can make it crunch time around here too. But, thankfully, my drama girls are in the same location. Here's hoping you have a restful weekend.

  2. Thanks! It was a first play for both girls and extenuating circumstances led them to be in two different plays/locations. I told them from now on they have to be in the same play or they can only do one at a time! LOL

  3. I have been involved with the theatre since I was a wee babe. 🙂  I was a theatre major long ago and far away as well.  I remember those times fondly.  My children are still pretty young, but I did try to get my oldest (6) to audition for a children's production nearby several months ago, but she turned me down because "there's no dancing in it!" lol (She's a ballerina. 🙂

    Hope your finger heals quickly!

  4. The bunny cake at the end cracked me up, seemed out of place in such a week :).  Glad you made it through!

  5. Oh, being a ballerina sounds like every girl's dream. How fun!

I hope my finger heals quickly, too. My mom wondered how long I'm going to have a dip there. I'm wondering that, too. Should be interesting. Still, even with the crater, it hurts less than when there was a wart there, so I'll take it. 🙂

  6. Sorry you had such a bad day. Most warts that are removed surgically come back. This happened to my daughter with a large wart on her foot and it was so depressing to have spent $500 only to have it grow right back. Then my neighbor recommended the amino acid L-Lysine. You can buy it online or at health food stores. Take a few caplets/capsules a day. It can take between a few weeks to a few months, but the wart will fall off and never come back. It's amazing. Worked for both my kids, my neighbor's kids, my sister, etc. Since L-Lysine kills off good bacteria in your digestive system, take some probiotics too.

  7. Oh girl, I feel your pain.  Keilee does plays back to back to back but at least I only have ONE child.  God bless you Kris.  You should take Monday and Tuesday off!  Show week about kills me too.  We usually have call at 7:00 AM.  As if!!!!

  8. First of all, eeeewwwww to the finger crater! Hope it feels better soon! My aunt just had to have all but 5 of her teeth pulled, so if it's hurting a lot, you can just imagine that kind of mouth pain (which I think is the worst!) and feel a little better. 😉

I am totally with you on hectic weeks and having to do things early. Makes me tired just reading about it! This morning our household was up at 5-something (AM!) so I could send Ken & Lindsey off to the Dominican Republic on their mission trip this week. A nap might be in my future today.

  9. I had two or three removed as a kid and they never came back. I also had several that went away on their own by the time I was 20 or so and they never came back. I wouldn't have had this one removed except it was so painful. I hit it on something at least once a day.

  10. You're the second person to tell me to take Tuesday off, too. Y'all are swaying me! LOL And, a 7 AM cast call? Um, no. I'd just have to spend the night at the theater. 🙂

  11. My step-dad had to have all but just a couple of his teeth removed when I was a teen. My mom had to work that evening, so I just planned to stay in my room away from him because I fully expected him to be in a horrible mood with the pain. He was in too much pain to be grumpy. I felt sorry for him and ended up hanging out with him watching TV most of the night. Poor guy.
Funy thing with this wart, it looks awful so I expected it to feel awful, but with the excpetion of the first day for a couple of hours after the numbing stuff wore off, it hasn't hurt at all.

Praying for Ken and Lindsay this week!

  12. Oh no- poor baby – you deserve to have some sympathy! God created whining just for times like these – lol – hoping your week will be beautiful this week! 🙂 enjoy it!
