What a busy week!  After sitting at the dining room table surfing the Internet while waiting on the UPS man for the majority of the day last Friday, I was ready to get out of the house.  We definitely made up for lost time this past week.  Saturday we got out and ran errands and looked at new (to us) cars.  No, we’re not buying, but we probably will in the next year and a half or so, so we were just getting an idea of what we might like.  I fell in love with a 2008 Ford Edge — fully-loaded, of course.  Even my younger two kids, who don’t like change, were asking if we could get it.  Um, yeah, when it drops another $10,000 or so in price.

On Sunday, we took a scenic drive up into the mountains nearby.  It was a beautiful drive and, of course, we got out and walked around a bit so I could take pictures.

Monday was my birthday.  I couldn’t have imagined a better 40th birthday.  We slept in, then, went out for lunch.  Nothing special, just something I didn’t have to cook — Chick-Fil-A, of course.  It helped that this particular CFA gives you a free meal on your birthday.  After we ate we went shopping and I got several new blouses — a couple of them were size medium!  That’s a big deal for someone who used to have to buy 2X.

We finished off my birthday with another meal I didn’t have to cook at my favorite local deli.  They even sent me a coupon for $5 off a meal for my birthday, so I got off very cheap for my portion of the birthday meals.  The final stop of the night was a little more shopping for a new bathing suit.  There was no way the one I wore last year was going to fit.

Tuesday I had a doctor’s appointment for some problems I’ve been having.  I felt properly ushered into mid-life when the doctor ordered a colonoscopy.  I totally could have lived without that and it makes me feel very old.  I’m not sure when it’s going to be.  I had it scheduled, but just last night realized there was a conflict on the scheduled day, so I’m going to have to call and reschedule.

Wednesday, we hung around the house and cleaned up.  In a stroke of brilliance, I assigned all the clean-up jobs on Tuesday night and wrote them down under each person’s name on a sheet of paper.  There was some grumbling about jobs when they were assigned, but Wednesday morning everyone just got up and did what they were supposed to do with no complaining.  I will totally do that again.  We ended Wednesday at my dad and step-mom’s house for a birthday dinner.  My step-brother and I share a birthday…expect he’s a whopping 18 years younger than me.  That makes me feel old, too.

Thursday was a lot of fun.  We went on a guided walking tour of our city.  Of course the kids weren’t as impressed as I was, but they admitted that it was “kind of fun” and “not as boring” as they’d expected.  They made sure to let me know that it was still boring, though.  I would have thought so at their age, too, but as an officially old person, I loved it.  There’s a lot of Civil War history in our city, so it was really cool to see a lot of the historic landmarks and hear some of the history that I didn’t know.

Today is the company picnic for my husband’s work, which the kids look forward to every year.  It’s at a local amusement park and, aside for being miserably hot, we all always enjoy the day.  I’m just hoping it doesn’t rain — overcast would be nice, though.  At least I’m sure I’ll get my step count in for the day.

Oh, and in case you hadn’t guessed, all photos in this post were made with my new camera and don’t necessarily have anything to do with the post; I just wanted to include them.  I am loving that camera!
