Another week down.  Only one more to go before we take our spring break!  I can’t wait for a week of rest and relaxation.  Yes, I know most of us are busier on spring break than we are during a regular school week.  Shhh…I’m trying not to think of that.Things have gone pretty much according to plan this week.  We are going to have to make up a couple of science labs because it’s not quite the right time of year for everything we need.  Read: some guy picked all the wildflowers for his wife (I hope), leaving us not one to use for our science lesson.

That’s okay, though.  We’re a bit ahead on science, so we’ve got plenty of time to make up the labs.

Speaking of being ahead, Josh and Megan both finished their math for the year this week.   We’re used to being perpetually behind, so this is new territory for us.  I thought I was going to like having less math lessons so we weren’t required to do math every day, but now I’m not too sure.

Not to worry, though.  I started them right in on the next levels.  They were so disappointed yesterday.  They honestly thought that I was going to let them be done with math until August.  Oh, these kids of mine do not know their mother very well.

Brianna gave her third speech last night in her Toastmasters class.  She is gracious enough to admit that she loves speech class after really balking about taking it.  The instructor told me that they always had a lot of fun with the class and the  kids enjoyed it, but, well, Brianna and I were both pretty skeptical.  It is giving speeches, after all.  I think she’s going to miss the class when it’s over.

While Brianna was giving her speech, I was running in my second 5K.  (Parents aren’t supposed to attend until the last class, so I wasn’t neglecting my daughter.)  I was hoping to shave at least three minutes off the time of my first 5K.  I didn’t make it because it was a very hilly course, but I did run the entire course – no walking – and I did it almost 1.5 minutes faster than my last time.

Coming Up on the Finish[3]

I was very pleased with my results.  Especially when I discovered – to my great shock – that I placed 3rd in my age/gender group!  Y’all, I got a medal in my 2nd 5K!  I’d have never dreamed, 15 months ago, that I would ever enjoy running, much less be able to place in any category.  Wow!

3rd Place Medal[5]

So, those are the highlights of our week.  It’s supposed to be warm and sunny this weekend, after a cold, gloomy week, so I’m hoping we can get out and bike or run.  Do you have anything fun planned for the weekend?

  3. WoooooHooooo!! Way to go on the 5k!! Great job! It sounds like you had a great week!! 🙂

  4. woohoo on that 5K!!! getting that award is fantastic!!

we are very close to finishing some subjects too…i think i will take after you 😉

  5. Yay on your 5K. Awesome!!

I feel you on the science difficulties. We're supposed to be studying insects at the moment. Sadly this insane weather is making that impossible. We're never going to finish.

  6. Wow! Congratulations on the medal! That is just awesome.

Oh yeah, and I totally know what you're saying about the math. I like that I feel less stressed about being behind, but we're also needing to buy the next level for Noah because he is about to finish up. Jack will finish up too, but then he'll just move into Noah's old one.

  7. Hey, Kris ~ I'm a 'mean mom' too, so we start the next math level whenever we finish. EXCEPT! I usually give them 'the rest of the week OFF'. It usually only is a couple of days, but they really cherish that freedom from math. One of those things I get way more mileage out of than it seems I should. 🙂

And beyond super on your 5K!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. What an inspiration to get up and move. Congratulations on the 5K. I've been up, out, and walking or hiking everyday. Thanks for the weekly post round-up.

  9. I haven't noticed if someone has mentioned this or not… sorry if they have.

I understand why you need to copyright protect your work, but did you know that also makes it so we can't open links in a new tab or window? The way it is now you read a link then have to use the back arrow to go to the next instead of opening several at once in different tabs.

I'm not sure how to do this, but I think there is a way to set your links to open in a new tab when they are clicked. If you could do this it would be a big help!

🙂 And congrats on your 2nd 5K. Pretty cool!

  10. 🙂 Okay…. the Weekly Wrap-Up links DO open in new tabs, just not the links in your regular posts (like the Homeschool Showcase).

  11. Thanks for letting me know that Elizabeth. I tried to test everything when I added that last night and it crossed my mind that opening the links might not work right, but the way I tested them, it did.

You're right, though. If you try to right-click to open in a new tab, it doesn't work with that script on there.

I added it after discovering one particular post, copied and pasted in its entirety, on two different sites. I know that's going to happen and someone who really wants to steal my content can still figure out ways to do it. (And, to give them credit, they had actually linked back to my site.) I was just trying to slow the dishonest folks down, know what I mean?

Still, I don't want to make life difficult for the many, many honest readers who just want to be able to open a link in a new tab. 😉 So, I'll take script off. Thanks for letting me know.

  12. In WordPress, there was an option to set that would open the links in a new tab or window… there MUST be somethig like that on Blogger, right? I just haven't had time to find it. :p

I TOTALLY understood why you were doing it! 🙂

  13. As far as I know there's nothing like that on Blogger. Poor Blogger is so behind the times, but I'm comfortable here and I know how to do stuff, so I'm loathe to make the move to WP. I'll have to dig around some more and see if I can find a workable solution.

  14. Thank you, oh so much for the eagle live cam link. I've just been playing it, and without even watching it, the lovely chirping in the background is just what I needed my ears to feast on. It's nearing the end of April and still no chirping here. Our spring is just around the corner though. Thank you again.
