It’s been a crazy busy week. As I mentioned, my grandmother passed away last Sunday, so we’ve had a busy, buy week with visitation, the funeral, and spending time with out-of-town family members, some of whom I haven’t seen in years that can be measured in more than a single decade.

My grandmother’s funeral was a time of sad good-byes, but also of happy, laughter-filled, joyful remembrances. It says something about the caliber of my grandmother’s life and character when you look at the people she’s left behind — her legacy. She raised boys who love and serve the Lord. They married women and raised children who love and serve the Lord. Those children married spouses and raised children who love and serve the Lord. And one of those children, a great-grandchild, has even married and begun to raise children who love and serve the Lord. Five generations of Christ-followers speaks volumes about the kind of people I was blessed to call my grandparents.

I brought home this beautiful basket of flowers after the funeral:

flowers

My step-mom told me which ones could be outside and which ones could be outside, but I’ll be honest — I don’t remember! I know the peace lily can be inside (It’s also the only one I’m fairly confident I won’t kill!) and the white flowers (which probably have a name) can be planted outside. If you’re one of those green-thumb types and can tell me what the various flowers are and how to care for them, I’d be ever so grateful if you’d share your knowledge.

Yesterday, we had a play date with some friends at a local indoor playground. It was nice to get together to hang out, laugh and relax for awhile. Today, we’re trying to get the house back in order (with pretty impressive progress, so far). You know how bad the house can get when you’re only home long enough to eat, sleep and shower for a few days. And, of course, the kids have time to drag things out, but not put them away. I’ve been doing laundry and cleaning most of the day, but probably won’t finish until tomorrow.

  1. Hey! I love your button, I have a shirt just like it, only it's purple! I got it at a homeschool convention. 🙂

  2. I'm glad you're grandmother had a fitting farewell. 5 generations? WOW! A true testament!

LOVE the hair-it's very similar to mine! 🙂

As far as the plants, I'm not 100% sure but this is what I think:

    Peace Lilly-fine indoors

Pink/Orange/Yellow- is a begonia, it does well in partial shade

White- looks like a daisy, would do well just about anywhere mostly sunny

Purple leaf- looks to me like some variety of huchera (huke-er-ah), they do well in shade

    Hope that helps!

  3. Love the new style! Glad to hear you had a memorable week of treasuring the legacy of your grandmother, despite the loss. Always hard to say "good-bye." Praying for your continued peace and comfort.

  5. Your hair looks lovely! ~ and Im very sorry about your grandmother..sounds like she was a wonderful woman though. <3

  6. Sorry about the loss of your grandmother. It sounds like she left quite a legacy. We should all do so well. BTW- love the haircut! Very flattering!

  7. I'm sorry to hear about your grandmother, but it sounds more like a send off to heaven than a sad funeral, if you know what I mean. What a wonderful legacy she left behind. It was much the same when my grandma died, but I still miss her 10 years later. Oh, and I love your hair. That's the kind of hair that makes me wish for straight hair — as I sit here in all my frizziness with our rainy season humidity!

  8. I was very moved as I read of your grnadmother's death, but wow, what a fantastic legacy she has left! I think I would be very happy with my progeny all serving the Lord.
Your new 'do' is lovely. Well done for having the courage to try something new when you must have been hurting.
    God bless you
    Sarah

  9. Thank you all for your kind comments about my grandmother (and my hair! lol). My grandparents — all four of them — we wonderful people and I miss them dearly, but I feel so blessed to have been part of their lives and for them to have been part of mine.
