Happy Friday!  I, for one, am so glad it’s Friday.  It has been the longest week.  It hasn’t been a bad week, just long.  I think that has a lot to do with the fact that I basically lost all sense of time at the beginning of the week when our schedule went out the window.  See, we woke up Monday to 6+ inches of snow on the ground.  That may not sound like much to those of you a little further north, but that’s enough to put unprepared Southerners out of commission for a few days.

The fact that the local DOT is completely ill-equipped to handle any significant degree of snow, coupled with the fact that we live at the top of a hill with about a 45% grade, which is at the top of a hill with about a 35% grade means that when it snows that much, we’re not going anywhere.

So, Brian was home for two days.  We took a snow day Monday for the simple fact that 6+ inches is the most snow that my kids have seen on the ground in their entire lives.  They built snow forts and snowmen, had snowball fights, sledded (thanks to the neighbor’s’ willingness to share their sled), and ate their first-ever snow cream.

Tuesday, despite the fact that Dad was home, we at least got the basics in between play times out in the snow.  The kids felt it a little unfair that the local schools wound up being off all week, but I was quick to remind them that those kids have to make those days up and I, for one, don’t want to be finishing school in June.  They reluctantly agreed.

Brian was able to get to work Wednesday after driving the van – not, of course, his car – down the two hills to the main road, which is flat and had been somewhat scraped and sanded by Tuesday afternoon, and leaving it parked overnight at a neighbor’s.  Since he went during the day while things were still a little slushy, he didn’t have too much trouble, but he did have to walk to and from the neighbor’s house to ours for two days because it wasn’t until Thursday that it was safe to go down our hill.

We were thrilled to get out Thursday night for a trip to our beloved Chick-Fil-A and then to Wal-mart for groceries.  Nothing like a little cabin fever to help you appreciate the little things in life.

Today was a relatively normal Friday, covering the basics, tying up loose ends, and reading aloud with the dog in my lap.  I know I’m not the only one whose pets have to get involved in school, right?

  1. We had TONS of snow this week too – more than I've ever seen in my life! It definitely is not the same up here in New England after living in GA for 20 years.

Glad your kids got to experience something new. I'm sure you're about ready to get out of your house by now, though!

(Why, oh why, did you mention CFA?? I MISS IT!!)

  2. I had to catch up, completely forgot about the wrap up post last week!
I can completely relate to cabin fever and when we finally go out, how nice the little things are 🙂

  3. I'm glad I'm not the only one who lost all sense of time/days this week. Between the snow and sick kids, we didn't do any of those weekly things we do that remind me what day it is…..I'm still feeling confused!!

  4. our snow has been melting…sorry (?) for everyone else that has it! I think it's great once in a while… give me Spring!! 😉 Thankful to God though for ALL four seasons. We don't have that here in Wyoming lol 😉

  5. We've been what my oldest calls, "On house arrest by the weather." Tons of snow here,as well as sub-zero temps. And we said "good-bye" to our oldest who flew back to college so homeschool consisted of lots of literature this week. PTL for Books on Tape!

  6. Sadly, no snow here. My kids are NOT amused. I on the other hand had my fill last year with our almost 4 ft of snow…so really, I'm happy for YOU guys!!

    Sounds like a great week!

  7. Sounds like you had a great snowy week! We just had cold and wet days.

Thanks so much for hosting the wrap-up.

  8. You are definitely not the only one whose dog is involved in school! I think our dog has heard almost every single read-aloud, science lesson, Bible story, etc. in our house!

Six inches is a lot of snow, especially in the south! And snow cream is great, isn't it?!!!

Glad to know we weren't the only ones who had an unusual week! We'll get back on course next week!

  9. HI Kris I wanted to add my blog where do I find/or how do I get a copy of your weekly wrap up button. Sorry new to new:) Thanks

  10. We also were snowed in this week and once the snow was off the road we still had snow turned into ice for the entire week…'fun'

BUT at least the kids got to look at white stuff every day…right?

  11. I'd love the opportunity to be snowed-in! Means no work for us!

What fun for your kids to get to play in the snow, even if it means being stuck in the house all week!

  12. We got tons of snow too -almost 9" for Northern Alabama- completely unheard of! We made a huge snow rocket that we could climb inside! My husband missed an entire week of work. It was good to have him here at first LOL, and then it was bad because the poor guy got bored and didn't really know what to do. Needless to say, we didn't really get much school accomplished. I'll console myself with the fact that summers here are really hot so it will be a blessing to stay inside where it's air conditioned when we do make up those days!

  13. We were snowed in too, in North Alabama. My steep driveway was still too icy to drive up today! We've loved it, though.

  14. We didn't get any snow but when we do, we usually only take off a day and then it's back to work for us. 😉
But then, we don't get snow that often, either. =)
