Weekly Wrap-Up

Welcome to the first Weekly Wrap-Up of 2014! I hope the new year is going great for you so far. I’d have to give it a thumbs-up. It’s been a busy week, but it hasn’t felt as insanely busy as the last few and we’ve started getting back into some semblance of routine.

Monday was a day of doctor visits. As a matter of fact, I posted on my Facebook page that after one hospital, one doctor’s office, and one pharmacy packed with sick people, I seriously considering coming home to bath in hand sanitizer and drink a gallon of Emergen-C.

My husband had to have an outpatient procedure Monday morning and I was the designated driver. Brianna wanted to go spend the night with a friend, but was very congested, so we had to squeeze in a doctor’s appointment for her to make sure she wasn’t contagious. She wasn’t. Just a sinus infection…and I told the doctor we were probably a day or two away from an ear infection, since that’s how long-term congestion usually affects Brianna.

She was supposed to be meeting her friend at the mall, so I dropped her off and went to the pharmacy to wait on her prescription. Because I’m nice like that.

It was a fun mail day when we got home. I’d ordered a new dog bed since the old one was was nasty beyond help of a wash. Well, the cover probably could have been helped, but the pillow inside? Yuck! The dogs love the new one. They’re so spoiled.

Megan got the camera she ordered with her Christmas money and I got a LightScoop to replace my DIY flash reflector. I love it! I really liked my homemade and it worked great, but the LightScoop is smaller and folds up, making it easier to use.

Tuesday, we took down the Christmas tree and packed up the decorations. Then, we had what is probably the most exciting New Year’s Eve we’ve had in a long time – we went to Five Guys for dinner and to Target shopping. I’m telling you, it’s an exciting life we lead.

I probably would have been in bed before midnight, but Brianna guilt-tripped me into watching the ball drop. I think I was asleep by 12:06. I’m getting so old.

Wednesday was a clean and purge day. I really, really wish I’d taken before and after pictures of the closet I worked on. I’ve found myself opening it a few times since Wednesday just to see how clean it is.

Thursday was a long overdue haircut. I would have done it a few weeks ago, but the place I go is near the mall and I had no desire to get caught in Christmas traffic at the mall. I treated myself to lunch at Chick-Fil-A when I was done and got some to go for the kids. Then, on the way home, I stopped and picked up my new niece.

Brianna didn’t have time to get the LightScoop on the camera, but we had to snag a photo of our very curious kitty.

I texted my sister a couple of days ago to see if I could have a play date with the baby. 🙂 Her older daughter and my youngest were at my mom’s, so I knew she’d have some time to herself and I could snuggle a baby for a few hours. Win-win!

Brianna’s got a homeschool dance tonight and tomorrow is a make-up Christmas dinner that we didn’t get to have last weekend because my step-mom was sick. I thought we were going to start getting back into a routine next week, but Brian decided to take off. That’s probably good because I’m having to do a major overhaul of school. We finished Paths of Progress and the first of the middle school books isn’t available yet. More on what we’ll be doing in the meantime next week. For now, I’m off to enjoy my weekend!

  1. ‘Kay, I’m about to ask one of those questions that at my ripe old age should know the answer to. How do you wash a dog bed? We buy our dog a duvet once a week (I kid you not – a cheap one but every. single. week) He’s a large lab and is old and smelly. Gorgeous, but really smelly and I hate any kind of smell. The one time I washed his blanket the washing machine ended up so hairy and then the drier….well, it rather put me off. How do you wash the bed without the resultant hairs getting all over the machines??
Love the idea of a play date with a new born and the photo is just the cutest!
Happy new year Kris, I hope all your new year wishes come true!

    1. I wish I had a good answer for you, but my only answer is: I don’t know. I try to shake off any excess hair before tossing in the washer. I’ve not really noticed problems with hair in the washer and the hair that came off in the dryer is caught by the lint filter. So, I usually just empty the lint filter after washing their bedding. A new duvet a week…wow. Yeah, that would get old.

Happy New Year to you and your family, too!

    1. Yes, they do. I finally caught the cats on it today. The dogs were with me in another room, so the cats took advantage.

I really do like my LightScoop. One thing I really like that I forgot to mention is that you can rotate it for vertical photos, so that you still get the light bounce. I couldn’t do that with my DIY version.

    1. Yeah, I was mostly laughing at the crazy cat. She’s so nosy. I haven’t decided if she has a really sensitive nose and that’s why she wants to smell everything (like, more than the average cat) or if she can’t smell well and that’s why she wants to get right up on everything she’s curious about. I’m sure that was more info than you wanted considering you’re not a cat person. 🙂
