Weekly Wrap-Up

Happy Friday, y’all! I hope you’ve had a good week. First of all, I have to tell you how extremely grateful I am that my oldest is safe.

You may have heard about yesterday’s shooting in Chattanooga, TN that is being investigated as an act of domestic terrorism. You may have seen it on CNN.

This took place just yards from Brianna’s cosmetology school. At 11:09, I got a text that read, “Shooting here.”

I immediately replied with, “What?? Are y’all safe?”

She didn’t reply for five eternally long minutes. Thankfully, she and everyone else at the school were safe, but a police officer who was injured and the four military personnel who were killed.

The school closed and sent their people home as soon as the danger was over in their area. I have instructed Brianna that if she ever again needs to send a similar text, it should be proceeded with the words, “I’m okay, but I wanted to you to know…”

I have new gray hairs, y’all. Please pray for the family of who were killed. It’s so very sad.

Now, I need to talk about something else. {sigh}

Tuesday was Brian’s birthday. We had a nice family lunch at Olive Garden and a relaxing afternoon wandering around the mall. Wednesday was a swimming day with friends. That’s always fun – the kids get to hang out with their friends and I get to talk to moms.

This was what my plans had been for Thursday:

When the events began unfolding with the shooting, my focus for anything else went out the window. It’s a good thing that Megan and Josh’s school is pretty much pick up and go and that my main thoughts for planning were to get an outline for the year, not detailed planning.

Josh’s school next week is going to be four days of driving school, so that doesn’t take any planning or focus on my part and Megan is going to just pick up where she left off in her workbooks last year.

Today is our local curriculum fair. All I’ve got to say is it’s a good thing we went swimming on Wednesday because I thought the fair was next week. Oops! I don’t really need anything, but I always like to go hang out for a little while so I can get in some good homeschool mom socialization and check out what’s new in the homeschool curriculum world.

Is homeschooling high school in your future? I’m hosting a webinar with Lee Binz, The Homescholar, on Tuesday, July 28, at 8 PM (ET). I’ve hosted this webinar before and it is so informative and helpful. It’s also FREE, but you have to register. You can do that here: https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/2579242440471465474

  1. Hi Kris. So sorry to hear about the shootings. Gary told me about them. It makes you hold your children just a little bit closer, doesn’t it?
On an entirely different note, I don’t seem to be able to link up….?

    1. The link-up is fixed now. Sorry about that! Yes, it does make you hold your babies a bit closer. Brianna didn’t quite understand why I hugged her a bit tighter yesterday. She will when she’s a mom. 🙂

  2. I think you may have forgotten to add the linky thing? I have to do our school planning this week too. I am very thankful that your daughter was safe. Being military myself, my heart just hurts for those families. The warning had been given, yet those marines were left vulnerable. Just burns, you know?

    1. Yeah, the linky is there now. My mind was elsewhere. Oops!

Yes, it’s horrible about the marines. My brother-in-law is military and was recently offered at job at the first center that was attacked. So thankful he wasn’t there!

  3. That’s terrifying! I am sure a lot of prayer went on in those five minutes. Glad she is okay. Is she traumatized at all? My niece was at MIT during the Boston Marathon bombing and she had nightmares for weeks.

  4. I’m so sorry that happened and glad she is okay. I will pray for the families affected. 🙁

For some reason, the link up is not working – it’s not showing up at all. I’ve tried different browsers, but same issue. Not sure what’s up!

    Have a good weekend!

    -Erika

  5. Oh my word, that had to be the longest, most frightening 5 minutes of your life! I’m so gad she was safe!

And, um…did you put a linky in, or am I just blind and not seeing it?

    1. {ahem} The Linky is there now. Clearly my mind was not on what I was doing when I prepared this post. Oops!
