Weekly Wrap-Up

Happy Friday, y’all! Have you had a great week? It’s been mostly good here. And cold. And busy. At least the sun is shining again. I was thankful for an overcast Monday, though, because the Georgia groundhog did not see his shadow and I am extremely hopeful for an early spring. Hey, one can hope.

Monday started the week off nicely with a much-needed lunch date with a friend. Josh and Megan were treated to lunch by their grandparents, so we all had a little midday treat to start the week.

On Sunday, I decided we’d been staying home too much. I refuse to be a slave to our curriculum – particularly boring, fill-in-the-blank curriculum (which my kids still seem to be okay with). So, we made plans to meet some friends Wednesday afternoon at a local jump park (indoor trampoline facility). The kids had a great time, burned off some energy, and enjoyed some of that vital homeschool socialization.

And, I caught up on some reading.

Megan was pretty tired since she had 3.5 hours of gymnastics practice afterward, but we all want to go again soon. I’m going to try to start planning things like that more often. One of the other moms was interested in trying to get together more regularly, too, so hopefully my teens can get some socializing and physical activity time a bit more often.

We’re thinking indoor swimming pools (while it’s still cold) and indoor rock climbing. I might even get in on that one. Laser tag and bowling are always popular. I’d love to try paintball sometime, too. Any other good ideas for fun things to do with teens?

I was so happy to discover my February Fair Trade Friday box in the mail when we returned home from the jump park. I think this box is my favorite one yet!

  • Another tube of my favorite lip balm (my favorite as in, I bought a whole case of them to give out as Christmas gifts – after stashing tubes here and there for my own use)
  • Another bar of the only handmade soap I’ve ever liked (I’ve been holding out since before Christmas for the sampler pack to be back in stock – I love the way this stuff makes my skin feel.)
  • A bracelet that I’ll actually wear (I’m usually not a big fan of jewelry.)
  • A t-shirt (new homeschool mom uniform) from Freeset
  • Another gorgeous handmade bag

And, then, I took my market bag from last month and ran out for a quick trip to the store. If you’re not a part of FTF, I highly encourage you to check it out. Not only did I get a bag of amazing products, purchased directly from the artisans at fair prices, but the purchase of my box employed 7 women this month – women from all over the world who are being empowered and equipped to support their families.

Each month, the Fair Trade Friday goodies come in a handmade bag. I love the bags and have been hoarding them up. Two of them have been drawstring, while the rest have had a fold-over flap. They’re cloth bags about the size of a gallon Ziploc bag. I love them – but I have no idea what to do with them! I’ve love to put them to good use, but I haven’t come up with any practical ideas yet. Any suggestions?

Today is a busy day of quizzes, grocery shopping, Megan’s teen social outing (Josh is not a fan – they just hang out and talk), and getting people here and there for sleepovers. I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

  1. More activity is just what we need over here this February too. I’m not a fan of February but really thought I’d missed the February blooos but today I woke up and feel rotten! Exercise, fresh air and socialising sound a great remedy (otherwise I might just hibernate until March. Everything improves in March!).
    Have a great weekend!

  2. We use similar cloth bags for gifts. They move around through groups of friends and family and I’m excited to know how much wrapping paper is replaced with a gorgeous bag for sharing!

  3. Thanks for hosting! I agree with you. It is nice to get out of the house and spend time with friends! Hope you have a terrific weekend 🙂

    1. Someone else suggested gift bags, but I hate to part with them. I may wind up with enough of them stockpiled to give in and do that next year for Christmas.
