Weekly Wrap-Up: The One Where My Babies Are Back Under One Roof Again

While I won’t even try to pretend that I didn’t enjoy my week alone last week (I mean, it would be rather pointless to try to pretend when I was practically doing cartwheels in two different posts), I have really enjoyed having all my people back home this week.

I posted on my Facebook page last Friday that, while I enjoyed the week, I stopped just short of knocking people down when those buses pulled in the church parking lot last Friday evening – 3 hours late. Thankfully, we knew the kids were going to be late due to problems with the buses, so we weren’t worried.

I did have to laugh at one of the texts one of the adults sent, noting that they were at a checkpoint still a good hour away from home and asking that someone just shoot her now. Yeah, it takes a certain kind of person to take nearly 100 kids to church camp.

cookies

(The cookies I had to make the other night all because of Jolanthe…and a little bit Brian because he didn’t buy me an ice cream at Chick-Fil-A.)

Josh and Brianna had a great time at camp. They spent a lot of time trying to talk over each other last Friday as they told us about their week – and they didn’t come home sunburned! That may not seem like a big deal to you, but have you seen my kids? They’re all red-headed (or strawberry blonde in Brianna’s case) with blue eyes and extremely fair skin. We need to take out stock in a sunscreen company.

When Brianna was an infant, the doctor wanted to check her for anemia nearly every time she went for a check-up. The doctor finally admitted that the poor kid is just really fair. So, coming home with just a little pink on the cheeks (Josh, even…not Brianna) was a small victory.

run

(The long, hot run I had to endure because of the cookies.)

We’ve done a lot of hanging around the house this week, which hasn’t been exciting for the kids, but that’s just the way it’s worked out. Brianna has had to work four days this week – and she opened every single one of them. That is not impressive to her or her night owl mama.

Josh has spent some time working on Reading Horizons. I’m trying to make sure he’s on there at least three days a week during the summer, hoping it will set him up for bigger strides in his reading this fall.

If you like to include photos of school stuff or if you do reviews on your blog, you may be interested in my weekend project. I’m going to make a light box, using the DIY light box tutorial I found online yesterday. I’m thinking it shouldn’t cost more than $20 or so. I’ll let you know how it turns out.

I’m also going to make this fruit fly trap that Jolanthe posted about awhile back. I’m not sure that what we have are actually fruit flies, but whatever they are, they’re driving me crazy and I’m hoping this trap will work for them.

Aside from that, the thing I think I might be looking most forward to this weekend is waking up without an alarm tomorrow since Brianna doesn’t have to work until tomorrow afternoon. It’s the little things.

Oh, and one last thing: The blog awards end next Wednesday. I’d love your vote!

  1. Glad you enjoyed your time alone, but glad everyone is back safe & sound – and not sunburned! Those cookies are looking yummy, & I’m going to try to refrain from buying “ice dream” from Chick-Fil-A every time I go pick Lindsey up from work!

  2. Glad to hear that everyone is home safe, sound and unsunburned. I’ve been trying to avoid those peanut butter cookies, but they are popping up everywhere! If I give into the pressure, I’m blaming you :).

  3. I know what you mean! I’m excited for the time alone when my kiddo goes to visit his grandparents but I can not waaiiiittt to get him back home !!! 🙂 Hope you have a wonderful weekend sleeping in this morning 😉

  4. The cookies look yummy. Glad to hear you enjoyed your free time and that everyone arrived home safe and sound. My boy is about to leave for 2 weeks to work at a boy scout nature lodge! I will miss him! 🙁
