Happy Friday! I hope you’ve all had a wonderful week. It’s been a decent week here, all things considered.

Last night we enjoyed “Thanksgiving Day” make-up at my sister’s house since we were traveling last Thursday. We enjoyed a wonderful time together with family and all our Thanksgiving food favorites.

The kids – there are six of them – were wild last night. We decided that it must be because it had been three weeks since they were all together last.

Paths of Settlement

Our school highlight this week was finishing Paths of Settlement. We’re excited about starting Paths of Progress next…but we’re not in a hurry. We’re all very ready to enjoy an extended Christmas break.

We’re taking off the month of December as part of our year ‘round schooling schedule. We have plans to keep busy with homemade Christmas present projects and looking for opportunities to bless others.

In other news, my van is in the shop. {sigh} It’s nearly 13 years old and paid for, so even though it’s a somewhat costly repair, it’s still cheaper than having a car payment, which we’re hoping to avoid until late-spring or early-summer. We’ve relied on the kindness of a friend to shuttle us around today.

I have a confession to make. You may know that my much-love kitty, Gus, is missing. We’ve pretty much given up hope that he’ll come back. It’s been almost three weeks and he’s never stayed gone more than a day or two.

Gus

I was looking at Craig’s List earlier this week, browsing the pets for their lost and founds. I came across an ad for some kittens that would be ready at Christmas. The lady said she’d email weekly updates and you could watch your kitten grow. I found myself thinking that maybe we’d be ready to welcome a new kitty by Christmas and that we’d have a few weeks to start growing an affection for it as we waited.

It only took a few hours to realize how foolish that was. I told Brian that I won’t even consider that I’m ready for another kitty (although Megan has been asking for one since the first of our three cats disappeared a couple of months ago) until I can quit looking out the window 15 times a day, looking for a little orange face staring back at me. {sigh} I miss that cat so much.

I’ve got my first race since way back in April tomorrow morning. It’s a family thing – a 1-mile walk and a 5K and 10K race. I ran the 10K last year, but I’ve let my mileage slack so I’m just doing the 5K this year. I think my family is glad they’ll spend a little less time waiting in the cold for me. They’re all doing the walk.

We each get a t-shirt and a breakfast buffet afterward. It was a lot of fun last year. I’m very excited by the fact that it’s supposed to be about 10 degrees warmer tomorrow than it was this morning. This morning was about as cold as race day last year and that was not fun for my crew. It wasn’t bad for me once I started running, but above-freezing will be much nicer.

I’m also hoping to do some shopping this weekend for supplies for our homemade Christmas present projects. I’m feeling crafty this year.

Do you have any exciting plans for the weekend?

  1. I look forward to hearing all about the homemade pressies. We make a lot of ours each year too, and have a very special project planned for this Christmas. I LOVE this season! Have a lovely week and thanks for hosting!

  2. I really enjoy the weekly wrap-up link party. We are a homeschool family of 1 8th grader this year. Anyway, I wanted to say how sorry I am about your kitty. I hope he does come home. I have two cats right now. A few years ago we had to say good bye to our beloved Siamese, Jean Luc. He was the best little buddy ever and it tore my heart out to say goodbye. It took me about a year and a half to feel like I really wanted to get a friend for our tortoiseshell girl. It finally felt right, then. You’ll know when it feels right, too. {hug}

    1. It’s amazing how attached we got to our pets. My youngest already started the “can we get a new cat” campaign when the oldest went missing a few months ago. I’m torn because I do love cats and I miss Gus so much, but I know he’s going to be such a hard act to follow. The really good ones don’t come along too often.

  3. I am so sorry your sweet kitty is missing ;( I know how you feel. I still remember when our Squeaky went missing when I was a youngster. Never did find another cat like that…

    We are working on Christmas projects here too. We also get to go ring the Salvation Army Bell tomorrow with Cub Scouts:) I am looking forward to that myself 🙂 Have a wonderful weekend!!

    1. Yeah, I was thinking about all the cats I’ve had over my lifetime. There is only one that I would put in the same category as Gus and he’s been gone (died at a ripe old age) since I was a teen. The really good ones are few and far between.

  4. I’m so sorry about your Kitty. I read it earlier this week and felt so bad for you!

    Yippee for being on Christmas break!!

    Do you have a buyer lined up for your Paths of Settlement now that you’re finished???

  5. I am sorry about your kitty 🙁 My favorite cat ever was also an orange tabby and he had the greatest personality. He disappeared a month before our move from California to Texas. I was devastated and I still miss him. {{hugs}}

  6. I’m so sorry about your cat.

    Be sure to share your craftiness with us here–looking forward to seeing what you make.

  7. When it rains it pours, huh?
    I’m with you sister.
    My car had to be fixed and our dog has a seizure disorder.
    Things could be worse, BUT I’m grateful they aren’t.

    Hugs & Blessings,
    Emily

  8. I totally rock at getting my weekly wrap-up in at the absolute last minute. 🙂

    I’m so sorry about your cat. How sad. He looks a lot like one of our cats. I hope you find him or he surprises you and comes back.

    Hope your race went well.
