Weekly Wrap-Up

Happy Friday, y’all! I hope you’ve had a great week. It’s been a busy one here as we’ve spent time making up sick days from last week. I’ve also had to resist requests to take snow days just because the area schools are taking them.

If we’d had some actual snow, we’d have taken some time off since we never get it. Instead, all we had were sleet, rain, and icy roads – none of which affect our ability to do school. Sorry kids.

Jack the Brat

It was icy cold, which resulted in having all the cats in the house, even the one who doesn’t behave well inside. She must have been very appreciative because she was on her best behavior. I really wish she behaved better in the house. She’s such a sweet cat.

Lily

We also had the outside dog in the garage with warm blankets and a space heater. It looks like he’ll be in for a few more days. It’s supposed to snow tonight.

In other news, I set up the weekly digest for my newsletter last weekend. If you’d prefer to get weekly updates instead of individual updates as new posts are published, you can now subscribe to the weekly newsletter. Just look for the subscriber box at the bottom of this post. (You’ll have to visit the website if you’re reading in a feed reader or your email.)

You’ll need to click a specific post since the box isn’t on the main page. (So, if you’re reading this post on the main page, just click to post title to be taken to the individual post’s page.) The subscription box will be located after the post, but before the comments.

If you’re already a daily email subscriber and want to switch to weekly, you’ll just need to subscribe to the weekly feed, then, unsubscribe from the daily the next time it’s delivered.

Did you know that I’m going to be in Texas in two weeks? It’s not too late to join me at the Homeschool Moms’ Winter Summit! I think you can still take $20 off your registration with coupon code thsc20. If not, you can take $10 off with code Weird10.

I’ll be on a panel with Connie from Smockity Frocks and Lisa from The Pennington Point and we’ll be answering your homeschool questions! Join us?

A highlight of my week was watching Josh perform with the praise and worship team at church for the first time. He’s been in the youth band on Sunday nights for a year or so, but this was his first time playing on the main worship team.

Josh

He did a great job – and they did some pretty awesome worship songs, too.

I had some fun at About.com this week. I was able to take some ideas that I introduced when answering 10 questions about homeschooling on my site and expound on them a bit about About.com.

First, I delved into the question, “Can blogging count for high school credit?” You probably already guessed that I definitely think it can.

Then, I took a closer look at the question that plagues many homeschooling parents, especially those new to homeschooling, “Am I doing enough?

Now, I’m off to make sure we have plenty of bread and milk (joking) for the snow I hope we don’t get (not joking). Have a great weekend!

  1. Your kitties make miss mine so much 🙁
T is on the youth worship band and it is pretty awesome seeing him up there worshiping God. He’s not been on in the main service yet, but soon…
Enjoy your snow (and bread and milk (?) )!

    1. I’m sorry. I know how much I’d miss my kitties, too. Yes, seeing our kids worship is such an amazing thing. Just rain here so far. I hope it stays that way.

  2. We actually got snow over the last week, leading to similar requests. I compromised and did snow and ice science because it was the only way to stop the mournful puppy-eyes out-of-the-window stares done for my ‘benefit’!

Thank you for all the cat photos this week; the suggestion of a new cat for our house came up this week and we had to say no….but I do miss our cats, so your happy furballs are very comforting 🙂

    1. If we’d had actual snow, I’d have called a snow day since we rarely get it. I’m not calling school off for ice, though. I’d rather take the time off when the weather is nice. I always think of you when I post the cat pictures. 🙂

  3. We have about 6 inches of snow so far, and it’s still coming down! Our outdoor cat is in his blanket-covered den in the garage. I put a heating pad on a timer in there for him. He may not come out ’til spring.

    1. My kids would LOVE all that snow. So far, all we have is rain. It’s 40 degrees, so the outside kitty hasn’t managed to guilt-trip me into letting her inside, but the dog is still in the garage since we’re already going to have to clean up after him anyway. Plus, he’s pretty old and feeble these days. Enjoy your snow!

  4. Kris, I love you blog, such great stuff. The only problem I have is that in clicking over to grab the link and info for the link up on Fridays, I can’t have anything else open on my computer or it crashes. Basically I can’t scroll on your page, switch tabs, close any pages, etc. It’s a new computer, and my old one did it too, I’m wondering if maybe there’s so many flashing ads going that it’s just overwhelming our internet connection. I don’t have issues with it in a feed reader.

Anyway, wanted to toss that feedback to you, the ads, they’re ‘killing me’…. Keep up the good stuff!

    1. Thanks for letting me know, Jill. I’m so sorry that you’re having trouble with the site. That’s certainly not what I want to hear. I’ve passed your feedback on to my ad management team to see if there is something we can do to improve my site’s performance. Thanks for the feedback!

    2. Jill, would you mind letting me know what internet browser you’re using? We’re trying to track down what may be causing the issues you’re experiencing. Thanks!

        1. Okay. I’ll pass that along. We made some adjustments so maybe that will help. Just based on my own personal experience, you may want to consider trying a different browser. I had similar problems to what you’re describing when I was using Firefox and I had been a loyal FF user for years. It got so bad that I thought I needed a new computer. It was slow, I couldn’t scroll, and it would seem like the whole page was locked up. This was on many sites. It tended to be really bad on Facebook, which is bad because I manage the Facebook pages of several social media clients, so I’m there a lot.

I finally made the switch to Chrome and almost all of the problems cleared up immediately. I still have problems with Shock Wave crashing all the time, but apparently that’s a pretty common problem.

I hope the adjustments we made help. Thanks for letting me know!
