Happy Good Friday! I’m looking forward to a wonderful celebration of my risen Savior with my family and my church family this weekend and praying that many lives are touched by the Easter message on Sunday. Do you and your family have special plans this weekend?

It’s hard to believe that I haven’t posted since last Friday. That really wasn’t intentional, but I just haven’t had much to say this week. That’s probably hard to believe for the people who know me personally.

The kids and I have really been enjoying watching the birds at our feeders. We’ve seen all of the following this week:

  • Cardinals (male and female)
  • Eastern Towhee (male and female)
  • Goldfinch
  • House finch
  • Carolina wren
  • Chickadees
  • Doves
  • Sparrows
  • Tufted titmouse
  • Squirrels…yeah, not exactly what we were going for, but it’s hard to keep them away. And, they’re cute.

Our regular science has been replaced by activities from Beautiful Birds from Shining Dawn Books. Hey, this is just too good an opportunity for a homeschooling mom to pass up. We’ve labeled bird anatomy, read about and made notebook pages for some of the birds we’ve spotted, and listened to their songs and calls at All About Birds, which is quickly becoming my favorite site for learning about and identifying birds.

I hope that, by the end of the spring or summer, we’ll all have a handful of birds we can recognize by sight and sound.

We had a major milestone in our home this week. The first person ever in our family (meaning our family of five, not extended family) got a passport!

Passport

Brianna will be going to Haiti on a mission trip in May. It didn’t quite seem real until her passport arrived. I’m not sure I’m ready for this.

I got something in the mail this week, too:

Body Revolution

My Facebook status was, “Oh, crap. I was really hoping this wouldn’t arrive until next week. Stupid living in the same city as an Amazon fulfillment center.” But, really, I’m glad it got here in time for me to start on Monday. I’ve been struggling with that last 10 pounds entirely too long and I’ve let a few more creep back on. Nothing major, but I’m not where I want to be with my weight.

I’ve looked through the meal plans. I won’t be sticking with them exactly, but I’ve gotten a few new recipe ideas and I plan to track my food (trying to keep between 1500-1800 calories per day) and follow the workouts. I’m even starting an accountability group on Facebook so I don’t flake out.

It’s going to be a bit tricky with a lot of traveling in my schedule for the next couple of months, but I’m going to do what I can, which is always better than nothing at all.

Those are the highlights from my week, how was yours? Be sure to post about it and link up. If this is your first time to join us, be sure to read the Weekly Wrap-Up guidelines. You can also follow the guidelines link to grab the banner code.

    1. I think it’s going to be a great experience for her. I hope Ken and Lindsey have an amazing trip to Peru.

  1. Philip as a cancer survivor had the oppurtunity to have a one day trip to Disneyland. I put him on a chartered plane with a large number of other children and adults at 4:30 in the morning. He arrived back at about 10:30pm after a very full, very fun day. During that day I realized that he was the furthest away from me than he had ever been and was in another country. My relatives are all American so we have long had passports in case we need to get somewhere fast.

    1. That’s a sobering thought. I’m going to be out of town when my daughter leaves for her trip to Haiti. I seriously hope I’m not crying all over complete strangers at the homeschool convention I’ll be working that weekend.

      1. The convention will probably help distract you. They had flown us both to Vancouver. So I had a day and a shopping list for places we don’t have in Kelowna. Old Navy and Ikea were on the top of the list. Plus I spoiled myself on restaurant food that I couldn’t justify at home. It was a momentary feeling of panic but it passed quickly with all I had to do.

  2. Very exciting about the Haiti trip! She will have fun and learn lots.
I like the Jillian Michaels weight loss resources. I hope that works well for you!

  3. What a wonderful opportunity for your daughter! I’d be crying too. I’m sure the strangers at the convention will understand…..or back away slowly. 😉 Just kidding.

I love that you’ve put together this Facebook group, Kris. I need some accountability. Thanks a million!

  4. The birds are beautiful! I’m hoping to get some feeders in our yard this week so that we can bird watch as well. There are a bunch of birds in the yard without them, but it would be fun to see more. Yay on the passport! My mother-in-law is a missionary to Haiti as well, she goes about twice a year, and she loves the people there, I’m sure your daughter will have a wonderful time.

  5. A late Happy Easter to you!
We worked hard, played hard, prayed hard and ate just as hard! lol It was fun and worth it all though.
What a fantastic opportunity for your daughter.
My niece went to Africa (I literally just flaked on the Country). My point – it will change her life.

I will add you to my prayer list that you stay on track. I need to do the same. Only I am just starting out (again).
Blessings to you and yours. Have a great week.
    Emily

  6. Love your list of birds! Envious of your cardinals.. So pretty!
This morning I saw a snow bunting! A female, inexplicably hanging out with a couple of juncos. She must be on her way to Alaska for the summer. I’ve never seen one before – didn’t even know they existed. Such a beautiful little gift from my Abba-Father…
