Weekly Wrap-Up

Happy Friday, y’all! Someone tell me that I’m not the only one who can’t believe we’re halfway through October already. Where has the time gone? It’s really starting to feel like fall here, which I love. Fall is my favorite time of year. I just wish it would stick around for awhile because I do not like what follows.

Are any of you a fan of winter weather? Brianna is. She’s so excited about bundling up. It’s those kinds of things that would make me wonder if she got switched with my real daughter at birth. Except, you know I was there. And she’s the spitting image of her father.

These two crack me up.

On the school front this week, we’re wrapping up book reports and our first review week of the year. We all read To Kill a Mockingbird and Megan had an assignment to write a book report on it. I never read it when I was in school and I know people who just love it, so I was excited about reading it.

Confession time: I found it just meh.

I mean, I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t love it either. I know some of you love it, so I’m ducking from the tomatoes you’re throwing. Have any of you read Go Set a Watchman yet?

I decided that we’d read To Kill a Mockingbird with the thought that we might follow with Go Set a Watchman, but there was a lot of complaining about Mockingbird and I only thought it was okay, so I’m not sure. If you’ve read the sequel, I’d love your thoughts.

Now, we’re reading Peter Pan. I was looking for something short since we only have six weeks until our long Christmas break begins. (I can’t believe it’s that close!) Megan was all about going to see the movie, Pan and Josh was telling me some things he’d heard about the real Peter Pan (as opposed to the Disney version), so I thought it would be a good choice. It put a big, happy, homeschool mom smile on my face to see how excited Megan was about the choice.

Josh has been working on stripping the paint off an inexpensive guitar we bought him when he first started playing. It’s been a fun project for him and we were both really surprised to discover how pretty the guitar was under all that paint.

He’d originally planned to repaint it, but now he’s thinking about just staining it to highlight the wood grain. It’s those kinds of projects that I love to see my kids get into.

  1. Living in NY winter weather is a HUGE part of our lives. We embrace it by skiing, sledding, bonfires and a lot of hot cocoa!

    Love the cat pictures!

Enjoy the movies and the weekend!

  2. Oh, lovely kitty pictures. They make my heart yearn.
I’m with your daughter. I love autumn. It is BY FAR the best season of the year, with winter following closely behind. We have a wood burner which makes our very drafty cottage snug and warm. Ahh, happiness…..

  3. SO not a fan of winter weather. We moved from FL to NY last year and it was brutal. The kids like playing in the snow, though. However, given the option, we would all move back to beach weather in a heartbeat.

I can no longer hear “Peter Pan” without thinking of the evil Once Upon a Time version.

    The cats are adorable.

Thanks for hosting and have a great weekend.

  4. If you didn’t enjoy To Kill A Mockingbird my advice is don’t bother with Go Set a Watchman. I didn’t find the story to be as engaging and the writing quality wasn’t as good overall. There is a reason her editor didn’t publish it initially. Not sure whether it would have been published now if it had beenwritten by another author. For fans of To Kill a Mockingbird there is some interest in reading it but otherwise there are much better books out there to spend your time on. Just my opinion mind you. Since you didn’t like To Kill a Mockingbird it’s possible you might like Go Set a Watchman.
