Weekly Wrap-Up

Happy Friday, y’all! I hope that you’ve had an amazing week and if you haven’t, that next week is better and this week makes you appreciate it more.

When we came home from church on Sunday, Charlotte wasn’t in her web. I looked around and she had apparently recently finished preparing her egg sac because she was still sitting with it. It’s huge!

Charlotte's egg sac

By Monday, she was gone. That’s strangely sad since she is a spider and they generally creep me out. I’m excited that she left her egg sac in a spot that will be easy to observe and safe from well-meaning relatives who want to clear such things for us. (Yeah, can you guess what happened to the last egg sac we were actually able to see? {ahem})

I’ll be anxiously watching for spider babies – and sincerely hoping that they move along quickly to their new homes after I see them.

On Wednesday, Josh finished his last driving lesson that was part of the classes he was taking. This lesson involved highway driving. He did well, but informed me that apparently he has a lead foot like his dad. I’m not sure I needed to know that.

I’m hoping it was just a matter of it being very easy to exceed the speed limit on that stretch of road. I have that same problem because traffic moves quickly there and it’s easy to find yourself driving with the flow and going faster than you realized.

In other very exciting news, I had someone step up to sponsor Pearl and Domingo late Wednesday night! She shared her story and it was a total God thing. It just made my day to have all 3 of the kids assigned to me matched with sponsors.

We’ve been working to get the blue, purple, and black out of Megan’s hair so she can go back to red. Not her natural, of course – a bright red. It’s very pretty on her, though, and works well for her because it blends well with her natural color as it fades.

We only used a demi-permanent color on Megan, but it does not want to fade. We’ve tried the Vitamin C trick a couple of times, which worked better than I expected. We’re going to try a color remover next. I’ll probably have photos of a brightly-coiffed Megan to share soon.

Nothing to exciting to share with school stuff. The kids are just plugging along in their textbooks.

  1. Because we live in a 200 year old cottage with wooden suspended floors (ie not a concrete bottom to our house but wood over a huge hole) all the spiders are making their way into our house to keep warm. I swear they get bigger each year. We have them coming through the floor boards, up through the plug holes, in through the windows….. It’s a good job I’m okay with spiders because otherwise I would have to move out as they move in!

  2. Charlotte was a beauty! We have some good-sizes argiopes around our place, too…..they never seem to stick around for the babies, though. I wonder if it’s kind of like salmon where once they’ve mated their purpose is over?

  3. We are keeping our eye on some pretty cool spiders round here this week, too, but we haven’t seen an egg sac – how cool! Thanks for hosting, it’s good to be back.
