Weekly Wrap-Up

Thank goodness it’s Friday! The kids have some quizzes to do today, then we can call the 2014-2015 school year complete. {throwing confetti} I am not going to lie – it was so hard to stay focused this week and get everything finished. We were all ready to be done.

And, now we are! Summer break, here we come – if only for a few weeks. Oh, hang on. I think you have a little confetti in your hair.

I’d love to tell you about something fun and exciting that we did this week, but it was mostly a week of tying up loose ends. Megan finally got a cell phone, which was exciting for her. It’s a dumb phone (you know, as opposed to a smartphone), but still it calls and texts, so she’s happy.

We are a “not until you need it” cell phone family with no smartphones until you can pay the data plan yourself. I don’t think Megan was necessarily at that “need it” stage, but, well, she’s the baby. We parents sometimes get worn down by the last kid and give in to the cries of, “I’m the only one of my friends who doesn’t have a phone.” Tell me it’s not just me.

I think she may still be the only one without a smartphone, but I can’t afford for her to win that battle yet.

I forgot to share my About.com article with you last week. I’ve been continuing with year-end homeschooling tips with articles like:

I hope you’ll check them out!

Josh and Megan did talk me into taking them out for dollar scoop night at the local ice cream place on Tuesday while Brianna was at work and Brian was at a ballgame. It’s really $1.25 now, but that just doesn’t flow off the tongue quite as nicely.

I had to scrounge for change and found a new use for the Fair Trade Friday bag that formerly held some bracelets I ordered after reading Pauline’s story.

The impromptu ice cream night didn’t do much for my weight-loss efforts, but it was some really nice family time with my youngest two. Plus, it was just a kid’s scoop, so it wasn’t all that bad.

Now, I’m off to get the last day of school finished. Happy Friday, y’all!

  1. I’m slightly envious of you all finishing up. We still have another five weeks, if I can tear myself away from Glee reruns long enough. I hope you have a lovely summer!

  2. It’s so exciting to be on Summer Break, congrats! We are still going to work on some things in the summer but definitely on a more relaxed schedule. Thanks for hosting 🙂

  3. Don’t worry, you are definitely not the only one with the phone rules. I have an almost 17-year-old who still doesn’t have a phone. Last year, she did buy herself an I-pod and can text her friends, which is really what matters to them. Once she gets a car and starts driving, then we’ll get her a pay-as-you-go cheapy phone. It worked for our older daughter and at 19 she bought herself a smart phone and is on her own pay plan.
