If you believe that “in like a lion, out like a lamb” stuff, today bodes pretty well for a mild ending to March. How about where you are?

It’s been an interesting week around here. I seriously think Monday and Tuesday may have been affected by the full moon. I wasn’t sure there really was one, but the attitudes in my house sure reflected it. I’ll be honest and say that it was probably mostly my attitude. Whatever it was, though, inspired my Wednesday post, Homeschooling on the Hard Days.

The best part of Monday was starting a new unit in Paths of Progress. I know I’ve said it before, but I love the six week units in Trail Guide to Learning. It’s just enough time on each unit to really get into the topics, then, you’re changing to something new and experiencing the excitement of a fresh, new topic. I’ll probably be bringing you all a good, full review of Paths of Progress sometime after we finish this unit.

Tuesday was the day I threw up the white flag of surrender and asked Brian to please pick up pizza on his way home. Tell me you have those days.

Wednesday was a strangely bittersweet day. I did not expect to feel anything other than excitement when Josh finished his last Lexercise treatment session, but it was kind of sad. We’ve really enjoyed working with his clinician, Tori, and it’s been so nice to have someone to talk with and bounce ideas off of with regards to Josh’s dyslexia.

I can honestly say that, of all the things we’ve tried to help Josh get over this hurdle with reading, Lexercise has, by far, been the best. It’s provided the first marked improvement that we’ve seen and has given Josh the tools he needs to succeed in reading and me the tools, resources, and knowledge to help him.

If you’ve got a child who may have dyslexia, I strongly encourage you to get them screened and consider the treatment options offered by Lexercise. Yes, it’s a bit expensive, but I can’t put a price on my son finally having success at reading. And, no, I was not paid to say that. It’s just a heartfelt cry of hope and encouragement from a mom who knows what it’s like to watch a child struggle.

Thursday, Brianna enjoyed another CurrClick Live class on the Tuskegee Airmen. I’m not sure who was learning more, her or Luna.

I’m not sure if it’s just amusing or slightly frightening seeing how intently that cat is staring at my computer screen. I just hope she never decides to use her claws to go after whatever she’s seeing on the screen.

Our biggest bit of excitement Thursday was ordering Brianna a new laptop! Hers crashed a few weeks ago and my old one just a week or so after that, so all three kids have been on the old desktop in Josh’s room (with no internet access) for math. I think I was just as excited as Brianna about ordering her laptop. And, the best part? She saved her money and paid for it herself.

I uploaded the next YouTube video in my Homeschooling 101 series, too – complete with quirky glitch right in the middle. Hey, I never claimed to produce professional-quality videos. {grin}

  1. Well done on another informative video. Why weren’t you around when I was starting out? Actually YOU were but your videos weren’t! Great job!!
    Have a lovely weekend.

    1. Yeah, it took me awhile to work up the courage to put videos of myself online. And, once I’m finished editing, I try not to look at them again! Ack!

  2. My daughter has finally saved up enough for a new laptop too, after knocking the other one off the couch arm last year. She’s spending a lot of time asking her dad to look at endless product descriptions so she can choose just the right one.

Your animals steal the show some weeks, photo-wise.

    1. Thanks. I love the one of Lily, the calico, looking through the rails of the chair. That was just a lucky shot with the sun coming through the window just right.

  3. Did you notice your badge is not working properly it has a photobucket message about bandwidth? I noticed it on my blog and then came here to see if perhaps you updated it but it shows here too.

    1. No, I hadn’t noticed. The designer actually hosts the button and I was just thinking about that a day or so ago…wondering how long she’d host it because I’ve had it forever. Thanks for pointing it out. I’ll contact her about it. I may need to host it myself…which will involve some new coding. Fun.

    2. Kathy, I spoke to the lady who designed the button and she’s no longer going to be able to host it. I’ve moved the button to my site and changed the code, but you’ll have to copy and paste the new code for the button to display on your site. Thanks for bringing it to my attention!

  4. You are NOT the only one who has those days! And raising the white flag and asking your husband to pick up pizza is exactly the way to describe it!

  5. Hi Kris,
Great video! We are eclectic too. We keep what works and pitch what doesn’t!
We’ve tried out many of the learning styles just to see which one would feel right and what we’ve learned is that we like parts of each.
I’m going to take a look at the Lexercise. I have a house full of dyslexics, including myself, with varying degrees.
    God bless you! 🙂
