This week has definitely been less crazy than last week, but I’ve gotta ask…Seriously? More snow? We never get snow, so I should be thrilled for the kids, but I am so over the messy junk…and I just got my van washed yesterday. *sigh* At least this time it’s not sticking to the roads…yet…so travel shouldn’t be so difficult. But, did I mention I just got my van washed yesterday?

more snow

This week was such a relief after the last couple of crazy weeks.  We did nothing exciting — no fun, hands-on projects.  It was just such a relief to get back into a somewhat normal routine again.  We got more than just workboxes done this week — we got back into chemistry, history, and composer study, as well as getting our silent reading time going again.  I did have a fun, hands-on project for us to do for chemistry, but this week, although much more routine than last, wasn’t all a perfect schedule, so we ran out of time for the project.  We will get it done next week, though, and I’ll post pictures.

I got a couple of review products in the mail this week that I’m really excited about.  Both are for Brianna and I’ll be sharing more about them in the upcoming weeks.  One of the products is an art instruction book by Artistic Pursuits.  It got me excited about drawing again, something I was really enjoying but simply haven’t had time for lately.  I’m planning on working through the art book with Brianna, so hopefully I’ll learn some things, too.

The other product is a self-guided history study for middle school and up from Pandia Press.  It looks really interesting, it covers the time period that Brianna is currently interested in, and I think it will help add some continuity and guidance for her independent study.  I love that its basis is in great literature — my favorite way to study history.  I’ll let you know what I think of it as we get into it in the coming weeks.

The kids and I have been going to the Y several days a week.  I think I might have mentioned that I signed up through a “get fit” program sponsored by a local Chick-Fil-A and YMCA chapter.  We’ve really enjoyed it.  Brianna and I workout while Josh and Megan play in this fantastic indoor playground at the Y.  A friend of mine is doing the program, too, and her kids are friends with my kids, so they all get to hang out and play together.  We even went swimming in the indoor pool last weekend.

On the weight-loss front, I’ve lost 24.2 lbs. so far!  I picked up one of Brian’s 25 lb. free weights today and was amazed at how much less weight I’m carrying around on my body.  It’s no wonder I feel so much better.

  1. I'm so proud of you and your weight loss. I should probably sign up with you for a few (*cough5cough*) months. I gained 12 lbs back last year but I could afford to lose 20lbs.

Snow is a pain in the butt sometimes. I love it when I don't have anywhere to go. It's so pretty but it's not fun to drive in.

  2. Congratulations on the weight loss.
I'm trying to be happy about more snow too, just not feeling the joy about it either.

Btw, Sorry for the double link- I don't know what happened with the first dead link.

  3. Awesome job on the weight loss! I am closing in on 20 lbs and it is such a challenge. Good job!

I really love the weeks when it's nothing exciting but almost everything gets done.

  4. Way to go on the weight loss. That is awesome!

We had a good week too. The first peaceful week of school since my two year old was born.

I'm with you on the crazy snow. We got more here too. Bizarre.

  5. We've had snow too!! (I'm in GA). So glad you had a more settled week. Looking forward to your review of History Odyssey as I plan to use it next year.

  6. Seriously awesome job on the weight loss! It is so encouraging to put it into perspective by literally lifting up the amount of extra weight we used to carry around.

Be thankful for that little dusting of snow you have there! We just keep getting it piled on top of the mounds and mounds that we have already on the ground!

  7. Awesome job on loosing weight. Wow, you must feel so accomplished. Thank you for sharing it with us.

    We LOVE artistic pursuits. Enjoy!

  8. Yeah! Good job! I have been going to the Y too. We must be missing each other though.

On the snow.. It is crazy. I don't think it has ever snowed so much in one month. At least I don't remember it happening here. I am actually used to.. it starts snowing and I am thinking okay, whatever. 🙂

  9. i forgot to comment earlier…
thanks for mentioning the pandia press history guides! rather than wait for your review, i went to the website myself and spent quite a bit of time there. this curriculum is definitely in the running for next year if we decide to keep spaz at home. i also mentioned it to another bloggy friend who is looking for a new history curriculum, and she was ever-so-thankful that i did! see, you never know how many people it affects when you post a link! (how did we ever find curriculum before we started blogging? 🙂

as for artistic pursuits, i have heard good things about it from another blog friend and looked at it quite a bit at our local homeschool bookstore (yes, we have one of those here in the unofficial homeschool capital of the world; i know you're jealous). i found it used online and bought it to use with fuzz this year, but did not realize i was buying the old edition :-(. anyway, fuzz & i are having fun with a how-to-draw-animals book and so i've put off artistic pursuits til summer. i'm eager to get going on it, though.
