Works for Me Wednesday: Library Reminders

Last week I mentioned my library book forms, for keeping track of which library books we have, which library they came from and when they’re due. I have to admit, though, that I really don’t use that form much anymore. With both of our local library’s now offering online account information, I have a new technique.

At both libraries, I can now go online to view which books we have checked out and when they’re due. I can also renew online. Remembering to do so seems to be my problem. So, I use the calendar feature in Windows Mail. I know that Yahoo and, I think Google, both offer a calendar feature as well. I put a note on the calendar on the date that the books are due with a note, when necessary, indicating which library they were from. Then, I set up a reminder for the day before they’re due.

The day before my books are due, I get a handy email reminder. I can then either return them or go online and renew them. It works for me!

  1. Oh, I love those! I’ve only gotten one and I was hoping it wasn’t just a fluke. I went and put my email on all the kids’ accounts since that’s usually where I miss a few books.

  2. I so agree! I love having all my library news online. The holds are so much easier to submit and manage, renewing books from my home office, and I can even pay my fines online . . . not that I need to, because I always get them back on time with all these great tools at my disposal. 🙂

  4. great idea! I think they are working on a room with our name on it…built and furnished by our overdue fines!

  5. Great idea. My hubby is tired of me supporting the library system with my fines. I get the emails but then forget to check my email some days!
