I’m doing the Weekly Wrap-Up way early today because….drum roll…I have a date tonight! My mom is taking the kids home with her after our bowling play date with our homeschool group. Brian took the day off and we’ll be childless until Saturday afternoon. Woo hoo!

We’ve been learning about the Vikings this week, which has been a fun change of pace. It’s also a nice, manly choice for Josh. 😉 On Tuesday, we made an entire fleet of Viking ships from our Story of the World Activity Guide. Guess who got stuck cutting out and assembling all but Brianna’s? Yeah, that’s probably a no-brainer.

We also spent some time identifying some of the rocks in our collection, which went a bit more smoothly thanks to 5intow’s head’s up on the rock key. We wrapped up that unit, which included volcanoes, earthquakes, caves and so on, yesterday. I was surprised at how much the kids remembered when we did the end-of-unit quiz.

Reading has been going really well. I’ve been very encouraged to see a definite improvement in both Josh and Megan’s reading abilities. The reading bingo is going well, too. I still have to remind the kids that we’ve already read certain books, though I sometimes let them read a book a second time for the bingo, but we’re not reading the same ones over and over anymore. If you didn’t see my post about it yesterday, I finally decided to try out Scribd. It’s way cool and really easy to use, so I now have the reading bingo cards available on my blog, if you want to use them.

I guess that’s about it for us this week…or maybe I’m too excited about my impending date to remember anything else!

  1. I was not familiar with Scribd. It is exactly what I am looking for. There have been a few times recently I wanted to post a document on my blog and didn’t know how. I don’t know if I will have time to check it out this weekend or not, but I’m excited about the possibilities.

Have a great date! I love my kids, but I need those kidless times as well. Enjoy!

  2. Love the ships! I have been thinking about getting The Story Of The World for history, I’m not very good at it and this is the first week I’ve even touched any haha!

  3. Kris, I can’t begin to tell you how much I love you hosting this weekly wrapup. Every week, I get some kind of great idea from someone to either use right away or file away for definate use. Thank you so much!!
