Weekly Wrap-Up: The one with the big announcement

December 21, 2018 By Kris Bales

Happy Friday, y’all! Can you believe it’s almost Christmas? Is anyone less prepared than I am? I seriously don’t think I’ve ever been less prepared for Christmas.

I didn’t buy the first gift until this week. I still have a few more to buy but I have no ideas. Christmas should not be this stressful.

Weekly Wrap-Up

For the first time in all our years of marriage, Brian and I aren’t exchanging gifts. We decided the remodel and the projects that we’ll be doing ourselves is gift enough. Neither of us could think of anything we need or even want other than new interior doors. {grin} Sad, but true.

And the remodeling? {sigh} Nothing has happened since last Thursday. I hope things start moving quickly after the first of the year.

If you love All About Spelling and All About Reading, don’t miss the huge giveaway they’re doing to celebrate the launch of the new, full-color All About Reading books.

So, for some big news. After trying the new format for a while, I’m ready to retire the Weekly Wrap-Up. With Brianna and Josh graduated and Megan plugging away on her own, I never really feel like I have anything to say. I’d rather put my creative energy into bringing you another post during the week…or working on that book that never seems to move from “someday.”

Participation has been low for quite some time and I feel like a broken record most weeks. This is usually the time of year that we take off until after the first of the year. I just don’t think I’m going to pick it back up in January.

Last year, there wasn’t much interest from anyone else in hosting, but I’ll put the offer out there again. If you’d like to host the Weekly Wrap-Up on your site, let me know.

If you’d like to keep seeing pictures of my creatures or of the remodel (hopefully there will be some “after” stuff to take photos of soon), follow me on Instagram. You can also check out the Weird, Unsocialized Homeschoolers Facebook page or the Weird Unsocialized Homeschoolers Community.

I may try moving it to the WUHS Community page, so that’s your best bet for following something like the Weekly Wrap-Up specifically.

Thank you all for sharing your week and listening to me ramble about mine all these years! Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, y’all!

How was your week? Post about it on your site and link up. If this is your first time to join us, read the Weekly Wrap-Up guidelines first. You can also grab the banner code while you’re there if you want it.

Remember: link directly to your Weekly Wrap-Up post so that others can find it easily when they visit your blog. And, post a link back here so that your readers can find the Wrap-Up and join in the fun.

Weekly Wrap-Up: The one with the Christmas tree and the birthday

December 14, 2018 By Kris Bales

Happy Friday, y’all! I hope you’ve all had an amazing week. Are you on Christmas break already? If not, when will you start?

Weekly Wrap-Up

What’s Happening in WUHS World

It’s been an interesting week. The remodeling work that was supposed to start Monday at 9 a.m. finally started Wednesday. One of the hazards of modeling during cold and flu season it that sometimes the people who are doing the work get sick. Things are underway now, though.

Our cabinets that were supposed to be delivered mid-January are now being delivered within the next two weeks. Y’all know how I crave routine, right? This project is definitely pushing me out of my comfort zone. [Read more…]

Weekly Wrap-Up: The one with a start date

December 7, 2018 By Kris Bales

Happy Friday, y’all! I hope you all had a fantastic first week of December. I’m not sure I’m ready for winter. Can we just skip to spring?

Weekly Wrap-Up

What’s Happening in WUHS World

Well, after complaining about it last Friday, we got some exciting news. Our bathroom remodel starts on Monday! I don’t know what changed, but I got a call last Friday night to schedule a time for our pre-construction meeting. Maybe they read my blog. {grin}

The boys are getting so big!

The general contractor and our project specialist came out Tuesday to go over everything. We’re still not 100% sure about the bathroom layout. They’re going to get the attic area framed in so we can get a better idea of how much space we’re going to have.

I know it’s not going to be fun during the remodel (6-8 weeks of sharing a bathroom with the kids), but I’m so excited to finally be getting started. At least we don’t have to start sharing a bathroom right away. They’re going to do all they can in the attic area before putting out bathroom out of commission.

We still don’t have our Christmas tree up. I’ve never waited this long, but I’m not especially excited about keeping Josh’s puppy (and probably Belle and a few cats) out of it. I did decorate the fireplace mantle, though. [Read more…]

Weekly Wrap-Up: The one with the remodeling delay

November 30, 2018 By Kris Bales

Happy Friday, y’all! I hope all of my U.S. friends had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Despite being more low-key than usual, ours seemed like a whirlwind three days of activity.

Weekly Wrap-Up

Yes, I know Thanksgiving is only one day, but we had family gatherings spread out from Thursday to Saturday. I was a bit of a hermit on Friday.

It’s probably going to be a short and sweet wrap-up this week. It’s been a busy week of dental and hair appointments and catching up work and school. [Read more…]

Weekly Wrap-Up: The one with the new addition

November 16, 2018 By Kris Bales

Happy Friday, y’all! Can you believe it’s the middle of November already?? Where has the year gone?

Weekly Wrap-Up

I hope y’all have all had a fantastic week. It’s been gloomy and cold here, so if you’ve had pretty weather, I hope you enjoyed it enough for me. And, if you’re in California near the wildfires, I’m praying for you!

What’s Happening in WUHS World

So, absolutely nothing has happened on the remodeling front this week. All of our supplies are in; we’re just waiting for the contractor to have an opening in his schedule. We’re supposed to talk to our project coordinator the Tuesday after Thanksgiving so hopefully, we’ll know something then.

Speaking of Thanksgiving, there won’t be a Weekly Wrap-Up next week, but I’ll catch you back here the following Friday.

We worked on getting the attic cleaned out this past weekend. So. Much. Stuff.

Our trash can was overflowing, and I listed a bunch of things on Facebook Marketplace. All of our Christmas decorations – and I do mean all of them, even the ones we haven’t used in years – are sitting in our living room. I’m thinking of just tossing a star on top and calling that our Christmas tree this year.

Even with all we moved out of the attic, we only got through about half of it. My beautiful bathroom is going to be worth it, though. That’s my mantra, anyway.

I acquired a new grand-dog this week. Josh has been wanting a dog for such a long time. We were trying to wait until our old lady {ahem} passed, but she seems to be in excellent health for a 16-year-old dog.

We finally decided what’s one more. So, last Friday, Josh brought Ada home. [Read more…]
