Today is our first day of school! I don’t know about you, but the first day of school at my house isn’t always greeted with excitement — by the kids or myself.

First Day of School 2010

There is no promise of catching up with friends not seen all summer, no new clothes to wear (because it’s still way too stinkin’ hot to wear all the cute fall clothes on sale), and new pencils and crayons can only create so much excitement in a kid, especially as they get older.

I confess, I’m very guilty of the first day of school being just the day we sit down and resume formal seat work. No fanfare. No excitement. And, honestly? That’s no fun for anyone.

This year, I’m sincerely trying to make the first day of school something a bit more fun.

If you haven’t started school yet, take a look at ten ideas I considered posted today at Real Life at Home. (And stop back by here on Friday for the Weekly Wrap-Up to find out what we did!)

  1. Wow, how exciting!  Well, exciting for me at least 🙂  As someone just starting out in homeschooling come September, I'm eager to read anything and everything from experienced moms!

  2. ha! he looks thrilled!!!

i cannot wait to start school again! i always look forward to getting back to routine and feeling productive again. i think we'll celebrate our first day with cake and ice cream… or maybe we'll just celebrate today with cake and ice cream and come up with something different for back to school. 🙂
