It’s hard to believe how quickly another week has come and gone. It boggles my mind to think that this time next week, November will already be underway.

Because we’re still in review mode for school, there hasn’t been a lot of excitement on the school front – I mean, it’s all been good and enjoyable, but nothing super-exciting to tell you about.

Except, maybe the Teddy Roosevelt biography we’re reading. I think I may be enjoying it more than the kids, but they like it, too. Teddy was a very interesting man. It’s probably worth saying that while we’re reading I totally picture him looking like the Robin Williams version of him from Night at the Museum.

Sadly, most of my excitement this week has come in the form of gadgets. I would worry that you might think me weird because of that, but I think I established the weirdness factor a long time ago.

This is the first gadget that has us very excited:

apple peeler corer slicer

It’s an apple peeler/corer/slicer. I tried to convince Brian a couple of years ago that we needed one, but he wasn’t swayed. The lady at the weekend retreat I went on last weekend had one and my interest was renewed. I had some Amazon money just lying around, so I ordered one.

Let’s just say, we love it already! It arrived yesterday and five apples were eaten before bed last night. I’m sure that a lot of the apple-eating comes from just wanting to try out the new gadget, but the kids really do eat apples often. I’m hoping that the ease of preparing them now will encourage them to eat them more often.

We love that you can use the gadget to just slice and core without peeling – there are those of us who actually prefer apples with the nutritious, fiber-filled peel.

Then, last night, my cousin got me excited about another gadget that I’ll have before the weekend is over. I’ve already checked and my local Target has them in stock! It’s a pineapple peeler/corer/slicer. We love fresh pineapple, but I hate peeling and coring them – it’s messy and I feel like I waste a lot. You’ve got to watch the video on how this peeler works!

Please tell me I’m not the only one who gets excited about kitchen gadgets.

On the health front, after getting a little crazy with two out-of-town events this month, I’m happy to be back on the right path with my eating and activity level. I’ve been diligently tracking my food in My Fitness Pal and I reached my goal of running 10 miles this week.

Based on my weigh-in this week (which I was not going to do, but I got too close to the scale and couldn’t resist), I’d like to lose 12 pounds by Christmas. That will put me squarely back in the comfortable range. I say that so y’all can hold me accountable.

  1. We are just getting into homeschooling even though we don’t really do much structured time. Mostly just play. I love this weekly wrap up and may have to join in on it! I have been looking at apple peelers and love the pineapple peeler and now NEED both! haha Thanks for all the fabulous ideas!

  2. Thanks for hosting! I’ve got my inlaws coming for Christmas and they haven’t seen me for 18 months, during which time I’ve lost over 30lbs. I’m going to set myself small monthly goals to lose some more before Christmas. I’ve only got realistically another 30 or so lbs and it gets harder with each lb lost! (I’ve lost just under 5 stone in total). I’ll be cheering you on!!

    1. Congrats on your weight-loss! It’s so much fun seeing relatives you haven’t seen in awhile. Just yesterday I saw my brother for the first time in a few month and a bunch of people my husband and I went to church with over 5 years ago. It never gets old seeing people’s reaction to my weight-loss. 🙂

  3. We have one of those apple gadgets, too:) I probably wouldn’t have bought one myself, but it was a gift and we love it! My kiddos especially love to eat the little strips of peel from the apples as I’m slicing them.

  4. I LOVE the Benge biographies! I haven’t read one yet that wasn’t great. I’ll add Teddy R. To the queue!

  5. I love kitchen gadgets! I have an amazon wish list just for them! I have the apple slicer/corer that we use when making dried apples, but it’s too messy for regular use. I’m perfectly capable of cutting an apple up when we want one. {And no one in the family requires them to be peeled!}

    The pineapple one went on my wishlist though! 🙂
