Happy Friday! I hope you’re having a great week and are looking forward to a wonderful weekend.

It’s been a busy week here. Monday, after a little school, Brian took the kids to meet his parents for lunch. You know that meant for me? A little time at home alone! I love my family, but sometimes that alone time is so refreshing. I don’t really do anything different than I would do if everyone was here…it’s just peaceful and quiet while I read my email and play Words with Friends.

We’ve been working on our salt-dough 3D map with Paths of Settlement. It’s a work in progress. I thought, at first, that it was going to be done in a week, but I think it’s spread out to be worked on over the course of the next six weeks. That works for me! We also spend some time working on making homemade pick-up sticks as our hands-on activity this week.

Tuesday, Brianna had her first ballroom dancing class. One of the moms in our homeschool group set up the classes, which will be held once a week. Brianna really enjoyed it. Her prom is tonight – too bad she couldn’t have gotten a few more lessons in!

Yes, the homeschool prom is tonight – her first! My sister, the fun aunt, took her out to get her hair and make-up done. I had a place in mind that I really wanted to go to take pictures, but I’m not sure if we’re going to have time. Then, there is the fact that the lighting won’t really be good until about the time the prom is supposed to start. Definitely be on the lookout for pictures soon, though – poor lighting and second-rate location notwithstanding.

Here’s a preview:

Brianna will be going with a bunch of her friends tonight. I think she’s a little disappointed about not having a date, but based on my own prom experience, I think she’ll have a lot more fun with her friends.

Next week, I’ll be taking part in the 10 Days of…series, hosted by iHomeschool Network. I’ll be posting on Homeschooling 101, so if you have any friends or family who are planning to start homeschooling in the fall, send them this way starting on Monday, April 16.

Now, off to get ready for prom stuff…

  1. Beautiful!! You are right – she will have so much fun with her friends!! And wow, ballroom dancing 🙂

  2. Wow…your daughter looks so very grown up. Love the hairstyle!  My daughter just cut her hair short…first time she has worn short hair since she was a baby. So very different but very chic.
Thanks for hosting the wrap-up…got mine done this week and posted at a decent time. Gold star?

  3. Such pretty hair!! My girls went to homeschool dances all through high school and never went with dates- most definitely the way to go.  I hope your daughter has a great time!

  4. Brianna looks SO PRETTY!!!  Oh, and I agree- going to the prom with friends it THE best way to have a GREAT, "drama-free", time…

  5. Brianna looks so grown up! That's almost exactly the hairstyle I wore for my wedding… I *know* she'll have a better time at the prom with her friends than with a date.

  6. Brianna looks beautiful and I hope she has a lovely time! Lindsey is at a fancy dance tonight, too: the military ball for JROTC. Except I was the hair and makeup gal. 😉

  7. Brianna looks beautiful! I hope she had a wonderful time. We traveled back to Alabama a couple weekends ago so my kids could go to the homeschool prom. They had so much fun last year that when we moved they asked to return just for prom. They had a great time visiting their friends and dressing up. We even made a duct tape dress for my daughter! It was a wee bit frustrating when we first started, but 30 hours later I think we had a masterpiece. 🙂
Oh, as to your prom experience- we must have been at the same prom! lol I went with my husband- my high school sweetheart- we were so awkward and uncomfortable that I thought "If my kids never go to prom, they won't be missing a thing!" Have a great week! 🙂

  8.  I could have been the makeup girl. I did my sister's make-up for each of her proms. I could not have been the hair girl, though. Well, I could have, but it wouldn't have looked very good. 😉 You'd think that in the sixteen plus years that I've been a mom to girls, I could figure out how to style hair, but not so much.
