Weekly Wrap-Up

I feel like I’m in some kind of super-crazy, sped up version of my life these days. The weeks go by so quickly! I can hardly believe it’s Friday again already. It’s been a really great week, though.

I have gotten up within 10 minutes of my target time of 8:00 every day this week. Last weekend, when I was away with my friends, my goal was to get caught up with some posting deadlines and social media work, then, to spend at least an hour working on online things each morning before waking the kids – you know, since I no longer get focused work time at night because the kids stay up later than me these days.

It has worked out great! I’ve gotten up and gone walking every day this week. The weather has been perfect for being outdoors and I thought I’d better enjoy it now before it gets too cold and I’m resigned to treadmill walking. Brianna even joined me two days. It was really enjoyable to get out and get some fresh air and exercise while also spending some time with her.

The weather has been mild enough to have the windows open during the day all week, which makes me a very happy camper. It sounds crazy, but the fresh air just makes me feel more productive.

So, I’ve been getting up early, exercising, and getting some work done…and I’ve been able to keep up with my housework, too. I would say the laundry is completely caught up, but I don’t think that’s ever really true. I will say that there are currently no clothes in my washer or dryer and I even got the sheets done yesterday.

Megan cleaned both bathrooms – top to bottom – on Tuesday and really did a great job. I was talking to Brian about the possibility of hiring someone to do that because I hate it so much. He said he’d rather pay the kids to do it. I told him that the kids wouldn’t do it like I’d want it done if I were paying someone.

He logically replied that they’d have to or they wouldn’t get paid for the job. So, I offered it to Megan first since she’s been asking what she can do to earn money for some big ticket item she wants to buy. She jumped at the offer. I showed her one thing at a time, demonstrating how I wanted it done, then leaving her to do it. She really worked hard and did a great job.

It was so nice having a sparking clean bathroom – especially when I wasn’t the one to clean it. I think this arrangement could work out well.

After all the craziness of last week, I decided to have a lighter school week this week before jumping back into our full schedule next week. That’s probably another reason I’ve been able to be so productive. I guess the true test of my new schedule will be next week. I plan to try to push my wake up time back to at least 7:30, but I think I’ll do it in stages. Shooting for another 8 a.m. morning every day sounds good to me for now.

I’ve been visiting around the web a bit this week. I was at Simple Homeschool on Wednesday, posting about 4 keys to a good homeschool day. Check it out – you’ll see a theme with me and beautiful weather. I was also at my new gig at The Busy Mom yesterday sharing tips for staying fit during the holidays. Yes, it’s not quite the holiday season yet, but as fast as my life seems to be going by, it will be here before we know it, so bookmark the post and come back to it in a few weeks.

Now, after a heavenly weekend away with friends, being pampered and fed amazing foods that I did not have to prepare, I am looking forward to a blissful weekend at home with my family. My oldest only has to work a few hours on Saturday afternoon. Other than that, we’re home for the weekend with no plans beyond having a campfire and making s’mores and fixing some French toast for breakfast on Saturday.

Reading that last paragraph makes me sigh a big, happy, contented sigh.

  1. You know, each week you sound more and more content, and this week it is like you’ve taken a happy pill! I’m so pleased home school and life in general is such a happy place for you. Especially the home school. It just seems like it is working so well these days and is pretty much stress free. Good for you!!

  2. Kris thanks for hosting the WWU!

Love the flow of your week and I hope the momentum and contentment keeps up…good for you!

    Have a lovely weekend!

    1. So far, so good. Last night was s’mores around the campfire. Today, it’s been a productive day at home with the family with chili and hot dogs on tap for tonight. It’s all about the food, apparently.

  3. I’m happy you’re reaching your 8am target. I would love to meet a normal wake-up schedule. Ah well, you’ll do it for me! Looks like you had a great week, Kris. I’m happy for you.

  4. It’s great to hear about productive weeks! I had one really productive day last week, which put me in a great mood all week. It feels good. And good for you for achieving goals. I’m naturally a night owl and have been forcing myself into earlier bedtimes, too. It’s not easy for one whose been a night owl my whole life. Having things schedule three mornings a week helps. I’d still rather sleep in!

  5. I’m glad I’m not the only one that doesn’t wake up at the crack of done around here! 😉 I’m trying to wake up earlier too…and then evening hits and the peace and quiet of the night keeps me awake enjoying the “calm.”

As for cleaning, yeah…I cheat. I have hired a friend who cleans houses to come in and do three hours ever other monday while we are at our Classical conversations day. It doesn’t stay clean long but I KNOW it was done correctly. Coming home to a wonderfully clean home is blissful!
