I can’t believe another week has passed already! This school year is flying by…or maybe it’s just life. You know, since I’m old now. As if there wasn’t enough to make me feel old, my baby turns 11 today. {sigh}

This was our first glimpse of Megan – all 9 pounds (on the nose) of her, eleven years ago:

Megan's Birthday

My very first words were, “She looks like Josh.” She did. She still does. Those two favor more than they’d care to admit. He was fascinated with this new little being we brought home and parked in his room.

Baby Josh

For years, they were the best of friends. That hasn’t been true the last couple of years, but I’m hoping it will be again.

Today, we have a very fashion-conscious tween who knows her mind, her style, and her preferences. She’s not afraid to stand up for herself which her confrontation-phobic mom admires.

She loves animals, Webkinz, art, and clothes. She’s one of those kids who doesn’t look at clothes as a “punishment” gift on birthdays and Christmas.

Today, she and Brianna have requested to spent some time alone together at the mall. That one makes me a little nervous, so I’m going to hover in the general area surrounding the mall, cell phone in hand, but I am going to let them enjoy some quality sister time together.

Megan is my academic kid who, for the most part, enjoys school and learning, though she has to play it kind of cool so her siblings don’t think she’s too weird. With the right books, she shares my love of reading and she’s been working on writing a book for a year or so now. Be still my heart.

Happy Birthday, Megan! I love you.

  1. How sweet! Happy birthday to your sweet girl. Mine is having a birthday today, as you can tell from my post title this week. As always, thanks for hosting the link up!

  2. We survived and the girls had a great time. It was nice to see them truly enjoy spending the day together. I have hope for their relationship as adults. 😉 Thanks for the birthday wishes. I’ll pass them along.

  3. My friend Cam (Ms. Understood) used to do this wrap-up faithfully. Now that I am homeschooling, I hope to do it as well.

It’s wonderful to hear what other homeschooling mamas are doing.

    Blessings,
    Emily

  4. What a nice picture of Megan! I think it’s so nice that she has her big sister to spend time with – I think of the dynamic in my house (an 11 year old girl and a 7 year old boy) and some days it would be good to have a big sister!

I also remember the post you wrote several months ago about your relationship with Megan, and I pray you’re both doing well with that. This age is SO interesting!

    Have a great weekend!

  5. Happy Birthday to your girl! I linked up for the first time and I’d like to have your button on my sidebar and in my post, I copied and pasted the code but it’s not working any ideas for me?

    1. Are you pasting it in HTML mode or visual/compose mode? It’s HTML code, so it has to be pasted in the HTML editor. Hope that helps and thank you for the birthday wishes for Megan.
