Weekly Wrap-Up

How can our first week of summer break possibly be over already? I feign surprise, but really I knew it would be this way. Break weeks are on a different space-time continuum than regular weeks.

It’s been a fun, busy week. Monday was taken up with post-travel grocery shopping and car washing. The car washing part was a lot simpler when I had a car I didn’t mind running through the car wash. Doing it myself is much better exercise, though.

Tuesday was housecleaning day – a given for the first week of summer break. A clean house always makes me feel very accomplished. I just wish the results would last a little longer.

Wednesday was just a hang-around-the-house-and-relax day. Much appreciated! We also enjoyed our first Kids Bowl Free outing. Can you believe we’ve never signed up before? We did a homeschool bowling league a few years ago and the kids got tired of it before it was over. Now, they’re finally getting to the ages where they enjoy bowling.

We had so much fun! We’re all pretty terrible at bowling, but we like to try. Megan and I went again today. It’s a fun way to hang out with teens and tweens.

Thursday passed in a blur. I had an late morning conference call (is that what you call it if it’s on Skype) followed by lunch with a dear friend and dinner at my sister’s house.

And, tomorrow my girl comes home from Haiti! Please pray for safe travels.

Oh, and, make sure you mark your calendars for SimplyFun’s 2-day sale that starts Sunday. It’s a great chance to load up on fun, educational games. Some of them will be just $1 or $2 each!

  1. I bet you can’t wait for tomorrow for Brianna to get back home! I’d be sooo excited if it was one of mine! Have you heard from her at all? I’ll pray for a safe trip and again, no passport losing!!
P.S. Can you come and clean my house next?

    1. My house doesn’t even looked like its been cleaned now. {sigh}

We only heard from Brianna last Sunday. They let her call home for about 5 minutes on her birthday. Since then there has only been one update on Facebook – that it’s hot, smells bad, and the food is strange, but it’s great to love on kids. 🙂 Can’t wait till she’s home!

  2. Hello Kris, twice in the last week I tried to add your blog to my sidebar but no feed could be detected so I could only add your page link, with no blogposts or updates. Do you know why this might be? Thank you!

    1. Um, no, I’m not sure. How did you try to add it? My feed is through Feedblitz now, so was it possibly an old link through Feedburner? Thanks for trying at any rate. 🙂

  3. We participate in the Kids Bowl Free program and my kids love it! It’s so much fun, and great family time.

Just an FYI, I have the same issue with your blog info in my sidebar. If I click directly on WUS it’ll go to your homepage. If I click on the individual post title I get an error message as well.

      1. I went to my Blog List and deleted you (in a loving way). Then copied and pasted your direct blog address from your homepage and readded it. When I did so it gave me a message “Could not detect a feed for this URL.” So now I have your blog name showing….and the first few words from your blog description, but not the title for your latest post.

        1. I don’t think it would detect a feed for the URL. I think it has to have the feed address. That’s the Feedblitz link. Thank you for your persistence! I do appreciate it and I’m sorry you’re having so much trouble.

  4. We love Kids Bowl Free.. we have done it for two years now and last year, we paid for the Family one – it was like $20+ for parents too. Love it!

I’m so glad your summer has started and I’m not even jealous that we are still “in school”. lol
But seriously – I hope and pray your daughter arrives safely. I’m sure she will.
I am working on my WWU post. New one in a few minutes.
    Hugs & Blessings,
    Em

    1. We did the adult bowling pass, too. Ours was $30 or $35, but Brian and I both like bowling and Brianna was too old for the Kids Bowl Free coupons, so it was worth it. We’ve already been twice and considered going today, too, but decided to stay home and get some things done around the house.

Thank you for your prayers for Brianna.

  5. I can’t wait until we’re at our first week off. Yours sounds so appealing! It’ll be in 2 weeks for the girls and in 4 weeks for my 18 yo who will be FINISHED! I wake up early in the mornings trying to figure out ways to make it go faster! LOL

  6. I love the look of a clean house – but it’s a lot like that feeling of accomplishment that comes from finally emptying the laundry basket; I have a theory that a clean surface is a siren call to kids and they.must.put.something.on.it! I feel like I should take photos to show visitors sometimes: “See? It was clean an hour ago! Honest!”

Hoping for safe travel home for Brianna.

    1. I have taken pictures of the kids’ room before after I’ve deep cleaned them. I stuck them to paper and put the paper in a page protector as easy reference for what a clean room really looks like. That didn’t last long. 🙂

  7. Praying for safe travels and that she had a rewarding time. Cleaning is on the schedule for today. I cleaned on Thursday as we had one of Philip’s support teacher over. I only dealt with areas she would see though. 🙂 So today it is real cleaning.

    1. That is so funny…because it sounds just like something I would do. Happy cleaning! And, thank you for your prayers.

  8. We did Kids Bowl Free the other year and loved it. I looked at it for this summer but there is nothing on our side of the lake.
