12-Week Sprint 2[10]

Welcome to Week 11 of the 12-Week Sprint to the Finish! The finish line is in sight! It’s time to pick up a little speed as you prepare for the final sprint.

How are you doing on your goals? Have you been meeting them? Have they been challenging enough? Too challenging?

I did fair on my goals last week, but not great. I’m mostly okay with that, though.

I feel like I met my nutrition goals pretty well. I stayed within my calorie range for the most part. I didn’t track my food every day, but that was more of a time issue than an avoidance issue.

Actually, it wasn’t until the weekend that I really started falling off with my tracking.

I’m excited that I tried some new things this week. Check out this lunch:

turkey burger

Doesn’t it look delicious? That’s my weekly turkey burger with lettuce, grilled onions, and fresh guacamole. One the side are red peppers, carrots, fresh pineapple (hidden behind my burger) and my two new food items: fresh cherries and jicama. I loved them!

I was surprised that Megan loved the cherries, too. I’ll have to buy more next time. I only about half-a-pound since I wasn’t sure I’d like them.

The jicama was recommended in The Biggest Loser: Simple Swaps book as a good alternative to potato chips with dips and hummus. It is crunchy, with a nutty flavor and I really enjoyed it raw with hummus.

Jicama is a root vegetable that looks like a squashed potato and it is typically eaten raw. It doesn’t turn brown after it’s cut like a potato, so I just slice off what I want for a meal and put the rest back into the fridge until the next meal.

I fell short on my physical goals this week, but I’m okay with that. I didn’t do any strength training, but I’m totally blaming that on trying to get back into our school routine. I’m hoping to add it back in this week because I missed it.

I followed my running training plan this week until yesterday when I totally wimped out on my 9-mile run. It was nearly 100 degrees, though, with a blazing sun. I basically decided last week that my half-marathon isn’t until November and I’ll have plenty of time for long runs in September and October when it’s not 100 degrees at 6:00 in the evening.

Brian wasn’t too torn up about not having to ride his bike to guard me/carry my water since he’d worked all day.

I really didn’t completely wimp out. I opted to run inside on the treadmill instead. I could have still done 9 miles, but I’m thinking that I either would have died of boredom or burned up the motor on my treadmill. So, I did 5 instead and plan to split the missing four into two miles added to a couple of runs this week.

So, what about you? How are you doing on your personal challenges?

Do or do not. There is no try.
