First of all, I want to thank you all for the outpouring of support and encouragement!  You’ll never know what it’s meant to me.  I told my husband that if I’d realized the incredible amount of support available in the blogging community, I’d have done this months ago.  I really think that knowing that others are making the journey with me or cheering me on is really going to have an unbelievable impact on my ability to see this thing through this time.  Several times yesterday I found myself thinking, “I just need to do this thing this time and be done with it so I can live my life without worrying about or struggling with my weight.”

To that end, I have two goals that I’m focusing on this week:

First GoalDrink lots of water and start weaning from the — oh, this is so hard to say — sweet tea.  Ouch!  Did you know that one of these bad boys (the cups, not the actual boys — because, seriously, when you’re 39, they’re both boys, no matter how attractive they might be) holds 40 oz. of liquid?  Can you imagine the amount of sugar that is in 40 oz. of Coke or sweet tea?

Twilight cups

I’m actually trying not to imagine because, up until this point, it was fairly common for me to drink half-a-gallon of sweet tea a day.  Yeah, seriously.  I’m trying to cut down to two glasses a day — one in the morning and one at lunch or dinner.  I’m also trying to cut down on the amount of sugar I put in the tea.  I’m going for at least two of those gianormous cups filled with water each day.

**Okay, I have to note that I’ve actually already abandoned the idea of the cups because they are so huge and the tops are so big.  I wind up wearing as much as I’m drinking.  However, my kids are already proving to be super-supportive and have risen to the challenge of emptying two 32 oz. Powerade bottles of their contents, so I can have them for water bottles.  Martyrs my kids are.

Second Goal:  Get moving!  I’ve dug out and dusted off my pedometer and I’m going to shoot for 10,000 steps a day — which I will include at least 30 minutes on the treadmill, which, incidentally, has also been dusted off (literally!).

Have you set any goals for yourself this week?

  1. Great job setting goals!! When I started back on WW in October a friend told me this, think of it this way – "You can do anything for 1 week. Commit to this first week and the next week will get easier." She was so right! Coming off of the sweet tea was difficult for me, I had to stop for two reasons – the points in a big glass and the caffeine. I now am down to one big glass a week – I so look forward to that glass! 🙂

My goals for this week … be in the gym 4 days (3 days down); follow my plan eating wise for Thanksgiving Dinner; weigh in at WW on Saturday morning; do not let one meal off plan become a week of bad eating.

You can do it Kris!! I am cheering for you!!

  2. My goal this week is to start exercise every day at 8:00am, be it on my treadmill, to a dvd (Walk Away the Pounds is great!), Gymathtics with the kids, or with my resistance bands.

Today I did it, though the 2 year old insisted he really needed me to hold him about halfway through so I only got about 15 minutes done. I'll try to get the other 15 minutes in when he is napping later today.

  3. no snacking, for me, while reading (my habit and comfort)…that is my goal this week. Also, drinking my Rejulac daily, instead of when I remember to…hee hee! Nice goals Kris, let's do this thang!

  4. Wow can I join too?? I try and try but mabey I need help. OK no sweet tea huh? more water ok and get moving yeah those are all doable. Thanks for a motivating start.

  5. I feel you with the sweet tea. Mine is Coke. I've gone from reg. coke to Coke Zero and only two cans a day. I know that's still a lot but it is less sugar. I've been drinking more water and eating more fruits and vegetables. My hard thing is the exercise.

Hang in there this week! You can do it!

  6. I lost 92 pounds last year through the wonderful miracle of gastric bypass surgery. I highly recommend it if it is possible for you. It forced me to change habits immediately and permanently. I now only use small, lunch size plates and take small portions. About half of my food that I eat now is high protein – eggs or fish (because I am semi-vegetarian). Also, I was a sweet tea addict before. After the surgery I am now an unsweet tea sweetened with Splenda addict – zero calories, same (well, almost the same, but you will get used to it) addict. GOOD LUCK with your efforts at weight loss!

  7. I think this is a wonderful thing you are doing. And I have to admit, I LOVE the Twilight theme!! 🙂

I am also trying to lose. I have about 65lbs total I would like to lose. My first goal is 40.

I have cut out sweets (ice cream, cakes, pies, pastries, candy, etc) and all fast food over the past 2 months. Now I am working on portion sizes. I am also adding some time on the ole treadmill. I gotta dust mine yet! 😉

I will be praying for you Kris– I know you can do it!!

  8. So I was reading 'round, catching up here ~ love the theme/layout, the incentive, everything!! ~ and my daughter, hanging on the couch beside me, spots the cups in this post. "THAT IS SO NOT FAIR!!" — I agree! No promo items at our theater, boooo.

    >^..^<
