NSV Saturdays

It’s time to celebrate those Non-Scale Victories.  Did you resist a temptation? Notice that your jeans weren’t as snug? Exercise consistently? We know that weight-loss successes don’t occur only on the scale. Let’s celebrate them!

My family was very excited that The Biggest Loser Season 9 started this week.  We love The Biggest Loser.  It’s one show that we all enjoy watching together…and I’ve been very proud that, since I started losing weight, I’ve been using the first hour of the show to get in some extra workout time.  I walk on the treadmill and I choose to walk at a comfortable pace, rather than a “workout pace.”

I have two NSV related to my Biggest Loser watching.  First, I walked for a full three miles in a little less than an hour.  The second was that I noticed that my comfortable pace and my workout pace have become one and the same.  I found that I could walk at the pace at which I usually workout for the entire hour without becoming overly tired.  That’s led me to make changes to my workout this week.  I have kept my pace the same, because it is a comfortable pace for my short legs, but I have increased the incline in order to increase the intensity and calorie burn.

My other NSV occurred on Wednesday.  I am NOT a morning person.  However, I knew if I didn’t get my workout in before we left for my younger kids’ music class, I probably wouldn’t.  So, I got up extra early so that I could have time to get my full workout in before we left.  I felt much better about myself and the entire day for having done that.

What about you?  What NSV have you enjoyed this week?

  1. You have been an inspiration. I don't follow too many blogs but I love yours!! I am going to follow it while I embark on my weight loss journey. I began before Christmas. I've done very well with making myself exercise. I have a long way to go.

  2. Thank you so much, Lana. What a wonderfully encouraging comment! You don't know how much it inspires and encourages ME to hear that I've encouraged someone else.

I have a long way to go, too, but we can do it if we just stay committed to making healthy, consistent changes.

  3. well, I had some NSVs this week but tonight blew them all I am sure. I had decided to work on portion control this week and was doing wonderful. I was feeling abit hungry between meals but instead of reaching for a pan of brownies, I reached for an orange. YAY ME! well, tonight my husnband took us out to Chili's and while we split the fajitas, we did get the chips and queso (which I love) and I ate more then I should have. SO, I guess I start over tomorrow and hope this didn't set me back too much.

  4. You know, Deanna, we're not all going to be on 100% all of the time. You're exactly right — you just start fresh tomorrow and keep on keeping on. It's not like you go out to eat at Chili's (my fave!) every night. It's one night, one meal, out of your life. You're still making positive changes.

Next week, one of your NSV can be that you didn't let that one meal set you back for the whole week, but that you got right back on track.
