It’s time for another NSV Saturday — your chance to share those weight-loss victories that occurred somewhere besides the scale.  Did you put on a smaller size jeans this week?  Exercise every day?  Eat more fruits and veggies?  Share what’s made you proud of you this week.

My NSV occurred at the grocery store.  Actually, it’s something I’ve been noticing the last couple of weeks.  My shopping cart stays relatively empty as I go up and down the aisles — until I get to the produce section (and, lately, the dairy case).  I’m so excited to see that I’ve been stocking up on more fruits, vegetables and yogurt than anything else.  And, after last week when my kids polished off all the Granny Smith apples before I got a single one, most of the oranges (I think I got two) and the majority of the yogurt (I think I got two of those, too, maybe three), I made there were lots of fruits and veggies in my shopping cart this week.

This week’s count (and this is for one week):

  • Twenty navel oranges
  • 3 lbs. Fuji apples
  • 2 lbs. Granny Smith apples
  • 6 bananas
  • 18 single-serving cartons of yogurt
  • (1) 2 lb. carton of vanilla yogurt
  • 4 lbs. carrots
  • 2 heads of broccoli

That’s not even all of the produce, but all that I bought specifically for snacking.  I’m not complaining, though.  I’m very proud of the fact that my family, not just me, is eating so much healthier.  I wish we’d made these changes years ago.

I can’t wait until this summer when we can enjoy strawberries, grapes (Megan would literally eat two or three pounds at a time if I’d let her), and watermelon.  Yum!  For now, though, we’re really enjoying our apples and oranges.  Just take a look at what used to be my crisper drawer:

Thankfully, Wal-mart had the oranges on sale for $0.25 each.  We probably should have  bought more.  So, what about you?  What NSV did you enjoy this week?

  1. Don't know if you shop at Aldi, but they had their oranges 3lb. bags for 99 cents. Apples were 5lb. for about $1.29 or something. I stocked up, too! (Grapefruits are $.25 each, too.)
Proud of me… for being more active and eating healthier. Even played some basketball with the kids yesterday. Haven't done that in years.
Meant to tell you how great you look when I saw you in Walmart! Thanks for keeping me inspired!

  2. Wow…if you're buying this much produce (which is great!) you should look into buying it by the bag. It will be sooo much cheaper. Aldi has bags of oranges right now for 1.29, and apples for less.

  5. Great post! I completely agree, I actually look forward to snack time when I can have my banana or apple…honeycrips apples are my absolute fave! They are the ones I hide from the kids lol.

  6. Thanks, ladies. I'll have to check Aldi out next week…for the oranges, at least. We're really picky about our apples. I don't eat that many because I'm not that crazy about them. If I buy the right kind, though, the kids and my husband will tear them up. If I buy the wrong kind, they go bad. Thankfully, I've finally figured out what kind everyone likes.

  7. I thought about you today and wondered when the NSV post would be published because I had a small victory!

We went to the Sara Lee store to stock up on bread this week and the kiddos wanted a danish. I grabbed one too – old habits die hard, ya know! – and opened it when we got to the car. I would have thought *nothing* about eating one a few weeks ago, and in fact did eat them regularly…mmm, iced honey buns are my favorite!…but anyhow, today, I read the nutrition label.

Oh. My. Word! One iced honey bun has 610 calories!! That's half of my entire day's worth of calories!! So, I ate three bites and tossed the rest! I still got my sugar rush and sweet tooth appeased, but I didn't completely blow my diet out of the water.

  8. It's great to see the NSV's as progress just as much as the pounds going down on the scale!

    I have 2 NSV's this week…

1 – I exercised EVERY DAY this week…first time in about 3 years that I had a week full of exercise!

2 – At least 2 of those days included exercise in the form of playing outside with my kids…another thing I haven't done for way too long. We had a blast!

PS – I finally got a post up about the Do or Do Not Challenge – https://makingoverme.blogspot.com/2010/01/do-or-do-not-challenge-from-eclipsed.html
