It’s time to celebrate those NSV’s — you know, non-scale victories. Did you resist a temptation? Notice that your jeans weren’t as snug? Exercise consistently? We know that weight-loss successes don’t occur only on the scale. Let’s celebrate them!

I don’t have anything this week that stands out majorly in my mind.  I’m excited that Josh and I both liked the spaghetti squash we tried this week (Brianna wouldn’t try it, Brian wasn’t home and Megan said it was okay).  It’s fun and exciting to me to find new, healthy things that we enjoy.  Have I mentioned Josh and oranges?  I just have never really bought much fruit.  Josh had tried a blood orange at my mom’s, but didn’t remember ever trying a regular orange.

He loves them!  He’s eaten at least two a day for the last week.  Thankfully, they’re inexpensive right now.

I bought a pineapple last night and everyone was excited to see it.  Excited.  About fruit.  Although I don’t like canned pineapple, I love fresh, so I’ll have to remember that and buy some more.  That is another NSV for me.  I bought the pineapple as part of a fruit tray that I’m making to take to a Christmas party that we’re going to tonight.  Although I will eat some of the higher fat, higher calorie offerings — because I know who’s coming and exactly what they’ll be bringing and, well, yum!  It’s friends I don’t see often and their personal best goodies that I rarely get to eat.

But, anyway, even though I will eat some of the less-healthy choices, I also want to have some guilt-free options to snack on, as well.  Hence, the fruit tray.

Oh, another NSV for me this week was noticing that the bulk of the groceries in my cart were produce, meat, and dairy items with very few convenience foods.  I was excited about that.  It’s exciting to me to see these changes coming about and to be enjoying them.  I can’t wait until summer when all the fresh fruits and veggies come rolling in.

So, what about you?  What were your non-scale victories this week?

  1. My NSV this week is that even though I GAINED 3/4 lb. I ate a lot healthier than I have been. I even exercised. Maybe my gain was muscle? My kids are also excited about all our fresh fruit. Especially clementine oranges that are so cheap, sweet and easy to peel. They will eat two or three in a sitting.

I've also become more conscientious of my kids' eating habits. Our oldest son has put on some noticeable weight lately and we are trying to wean him off the second helpings of everything at dinner. Apples just aren't as much fun as fudge, you know?

  2. Mine was actually a low blood sugar drop after exercising. It was scary, but all the right helps were nearby when I needed it. What it did, was have me research foods and exercise, take stock of really taking care of myself, and not just limiting calories. Too little breakfast and a very long walk was not good. Yesterday I drank more, had several small healthy meals, had the best sleep ever, and woke up in the mood to clean house. All for a sugar drop. 🙂 Yeah.
