I thought Saturdays would be a fun day to celebrate those NSV’s — you know, non-scale victories.  Did you resist a temptation?  Notice that your jeans weren’t as snug?  Exercise consistently?  We know that weight-loss successes don’t occur only on the scale.  Let’s celebrate them!

Scale-less Saturday

This week, you can just leave your NSV as a comment, but let me know if you’d like me to set up a linky for the next time, so that you can post about them on your own blog and link up.

I have a couple of NSV this week.  The first one occurred Tuesday night when I walked 3 miles on the treadmill while watching The Biggest Loser!  I was so proud of that three miles.

The second was Thursday.  A few week ago, before I decided to begin my weight-loss journey, I was contacted by a local research firm about doing a taste-test for which I would be paid.  I had forgotten about it until they called to confirm my appointment.  After a brief mental debate about whether I should just go and not worry about a few fattening little hamburgers, I asked if my husband could come in my place.  They said he could, so we still got paid, but I didn’t have to sacrifice my healthy eating for the day!

So, what about you? Did you have any NSV this week?

  1. My NSV's this week: I have exercised every single day (even if the kids only let me do half of what I planned…LOL).

I have started eating more veggies – a big challenge for me. I have discovered that with a little soy sauce or seasonings I like those frozen veggie stir fry bags. That is lots of bulk making me full for few calories.

I went to the movies with my sister and we both said no to soda, popcorn, and candy. We ate at home before we went!

  2. Oh, getting veggies in is a big one for me, too, Tristan. That's one that I've got to start working on more. I'm slowly starting to try to get more fruits and veggies in there.

Yay to saying no to snacks at the movies, too.

Berry Patch, WTG not ordering for yourself at McDonald's. You only ate ONE fry? Yeah, that's a victory! I love McD's fries. And, way to get that movement in! Great job!

  3. I made several meals cutting to the extremes of non fat. They were good, and my family didn't seem to notice, and I remembered that they would eat anything I made them. I did find that I got seriously hungry faster without the added fats, so I need to find ways to eat healthy meals throughout the day. 3-4 or so, instead of 1-2. Also I notice that I'm not hurting as much after my walks. It is a joy. 🙂 Thanks for making us pause to reflect and be thankful for our victories!

  4. Great job everyone! I exercised 3 days so far this week, and have resisted the cookies I made for my family. VERY HARD lol. I have also resisted weighing myself everyday. I am going to stick to once a week now. I'd love a McLinky if you are up to it, Kris.

  5. @ Pebblekeeper — My husband and I have noticed that we get hungrier sooner, too, without the added fat. I'm trying to up the veggies and come up with low-fat, healthful snacks for between meals. The Biggest Loser books I've got recommend three meals and up to two snacks with calories fairly even spread between the five. I'm working on that.

@ Julie — I'm having trouble with only weighing once a week. I sneaked a peak on Wednesday and Friday.

  6. Great job! The NSV's are just as important as the scale victories. As for between the meal snack, try adding protein, like yogurt or cottage cheese with a piece of fruit or high fiber crackers. It'll fill you up for longer and help carry you through to the next meal. It really works!

  7. I'm just starting to get back on this again too… I NEED to re-lose 35-40 pounds. My NSV's are big for me this week, because although I didn't lose anything, I DID get to work out at the Y 3 times in the past week, while my boys were in swimming lessons! AND while I waited for them to get dressed in the locker room, I spent another 10-15 min. riding a recline bike. I don't love exercise. I read your posts and you sound like me. No sports, no outside play with the kids, etc. I've gotten really lazy. But I'm working to change that! 🙂

  8. @ Paige — Yeah, that's what the Biggest Loser book I've been reading says, too. I bought some low-fat string cheese at the grocery store this week and I'm going to boil some eggs to keep in the fridge. That should make for quick and easy snacks. I also got some Greek yogurt so I can try some smoothies.

@ Dawn — Great job on getting the workouts in! No, I *don't* like exercise. I was reading Biggest Loser Simple Swaps and Betty Sue, Ali Vincint's mom, says she still hates exercise, even after being on Biggest Loser and losing all that weight. She makes herself do it, though, because she knows she has to.

That made me feel a little bit better, knowing that not everyone develops a big love of exercise, but you can still "just do it" and lose weight. Of course, developing at least a tolerance for it along the way sure would make things easier. 😉
