Weekly Weigh-In

Happy Anniversary! What? It’s not your anniversary? Oh. Well, it’s mine! It was two years ago today that I started my transformation from obese couch potato to half-marathon runner.

It was the Monday before Thanksgiving. I’d decided that weekend that I was going to start on Monday. Basically, that was just an excuse to give myself a couple more days not to start. I spent more time that weekend working on setting up my weight-loss blog than I did thinking about what I was going to do to lose weight starting Monday.

I never dreamed that Monday morning, when I got on the treadmill with such an angry, bad attitude, that I would succeed beyond my wildest dreams. I never, ever dreamed that two years later I’d be here grumbling about that last stubborn 10 pounds because I never thought I’d be within 10 pounds of my goal weight.

Two Years[3]

It’s been a wild, exciting, exhilarating, unbelievable ride!

If you’re sitting on the other side of the computer screen thinking that you’d love to lose weight, but feeling like you’ll never succeed, let me tell you: you can! If I go from morbidly obese to less than 10 pounds away from my goal weight, you can do it, too. You just have to start.

Then, don’t quit!

So, how’s that stubborn ten going? I lost 0.8 lb. last week. Not what I was hoping, but it’s moving in the right direction.

What do I think about Thanksgiving week? Well, I’m excited about the potential. I looked back to my last two post-Thanksgiving weigh-ins and, historically, they’ve gone well. The first year I lost 4.2 pounds and last year I lost 4 pounds. I think that may be because I’m hyper-focused on my eating Thanksgiving week.

I’m not really counting on having a loss like that at this point in the game, but a girl can dream, right? A four-pound loss this week would put me within 4 pounds of my goal weight. How awesome would that be?

I’m going to do the best I can. I’ll be eating some favorites in moderation, enjoying some new, healthy favorites, and staying active, starting with a 5-mile “turkey trot” race Thanksgiving morning, followed by lots of walking during Black Friday shopping with my mom and sister.

What are you doing to stay focused on your health this week? Are you ready to get started on the journey?

Happy Thanksgiving!

Do or do not. There is no try.
