Weekly Weigh-In: Analyzing "Off" Weeks

Weekly Weigh-In

It’s time to weigh-in!  Remember, you can leave your weigh-in results in the comments or link up below any time this week that you have your weigh-in. 

I had one of “those” weeks.  You know, the one where you do everything you’re supposed to do — make good food choices, exercise every day — and the scale still doesn’t move like you’d like it to.  I was disappointed to see that I only lost 0.2 lb.  Yes, you read that right — two-tenths.  I exercised every day, with a bonus 3 mile walk during the first hour of The Biggest Loser and an extra workout at the $1 gym on Thursday.

We had my niece’s birthday at Chuck E. Cheese on Sunday and I ate before we left home so I wouldn’t be tempted by cake and pizza.  And, I still only lost 0.2 lb.  I’m hoping that it was just an off week rather than a dreaded plateau.  The last time I had an off week, I lost big the next week, so I’m remaining hopeful.

I’m not getting discouraged, though, because just today I had to change from the blue jeans I was wearing to a smaller pair because the ones I was wearing were so loose they were getting on my nerves.  So, I know I’m moving in the right direction.  Also, according to the scale at The Biggest Loser group weigh-in, I’d lost 1.4 lbs., so maybe next week will be better.

I think that’s my weigh-in thought for the week — when the scale doesn’t move the way you’d like it to, I think it’s good to take some time to look at the reasons why — not to berate yourself for doing badly, but to see if you need to make any changes to do better the next week.  If you didn’t exercise or make good food choices, it’s obvious why the scale isn’t moving and it’s easy to know what changes you should make the next week.  If you did what you were supposed to do, just keep on keeping on and focus on the positive changes — healthier food choices, clothes fitting more loosely, more energy.

If you have several off weeks in a row, you might be at a plateau.  I’ll discuss some ideas I’ve got for getting past the plateau in a later post.  For now, I’m going to hope that it was just an off week.  😉

  1. Hi Kris! I'm with you…I think we'll all hit some 'off-weeks' but that is probably our body gearing up to drop a bunch more! But what an awesome NSV you had…dropping a size…woohoo! Can't wait til I get to that stage! I read some cheesy poem tonight written from the perspective of ONE POUND on our bodies…basically that ONE POUND was saying that it loved being ONE POUND, because no ever wanted to lose 'just one pound'…they always want to lose 10, 20, 50, 100…not just 1. But really, it is EVERY loss that gets us to those big numbers…so every single ONE POUND (or even two tenths of a pound) is a step in the right direction!

    Keep on keeping on (and I know you will!)


  2. Congratulations on the changes you are making! I am needing to jump on that band wagon myself. You may not have seen a big loss on the scale because you probably are gaining muscle. As your muscle mass increases you will start to burn more fat. They say you shouldn't go by the scale alone but using a tape measure and how your clothes feel is another way to measure weight loss. So congrats on the smaller jeans!
