I thought I’d attempt hosting a weekly weigh-in.  Of course, I’ll be posting mine regardless of whether or not anyone joins me — accountability, you know — but I welcome you to join in with your weigh-in.  We can celebrate together when we lose and try to figure out what went wrong if we gain.

I thought, in addition to sharing your weight loss successes (thinking positively, here), everyone would also be welcome to “weigh in” on any other aspects of weight loss that are on your mind that given week.  To that end, I’ll post a MckLinky each week.  If you have a thought about which to weigh in from your own blog, you can add the link to your post.  Otherwise, you can just leave your weigh-in numbers or your thoughts in the comments section.  Since I weigh on Mondays, I’ll post the Weekly Weigh-In on Tuesdays, but you can add yours at any time up to the following Tuesday.

So, for the first part, my actual weight loss weigh-in:  I lost 4.2 pounds!!!!!!  The week of Thanksgiving, I lost over 4 pounds!  I’m psyched and ready to go!

Now, for the thoughts weigh in.  I was reading The Biggest Loser 30-Day Jump Start when I came across a quote that a challenge instructor said to Phillip in Season 6.  Phillip said he would “try” to complete the challenge.  The instructor replied, “Trying is quitting with honor.”

That immediately made me think of Yoda, in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, when he said, “Do or do not.  There is no try.”  Watch this clip and listen carefully to what Yoda tells Luke.

Did you catch the part where he told Luke that he had to change his thinking.  That’s what I’ve got to do:  change my thinking.  I’ve got to change my thinking about exercise, about food, about my body, about the decisions and choices that I make, about my worth, about my ability to complete a challenge.

How many times have I tried to lose weight and failed?  Too many to count.  Did I fail because I continued doing everything I was supposed to — eating right, exercising, drinking lots of water — but just didn’t lose weight?  No.  I failed because I got tired of trying and quit.  If I had continued working at losing weight, I would not be obese right now.

From this moment on, I will not try to lose weight.  I will lose this weight.  I am worth the effort and the end result.  I can do this.  I will not quit.  Do or do not; there is no try!

So, how did you do on your weight loss goals this week?

  1. Way to go Kris!! Losing ANY amount during Thanksgiving is good, but over 4lbs. is incredible!! Way to go!! Very proud of you! (I didn't lose, but I didn't gain either..so that's a plus).

  2. CONGRATULATIONS on the loss!!!

I like your shared thoughts about trying. I like the quote that trying means quitting with honor. Good point!

I gained 2 lbs. over the Thanksgiving weekend and am working on relosing them. (Lost 1, 1 to go.) And then…onward and downward, I suppose!

  3. i wish i had lost some, but then i am just glad i didn't gain!

I agree that it is a total change of mind and not just body. You have to really want to change or you will not follow through.

  4. What a great idea! I have had a difficult time losing weight after baby #5 and after reaching age 40! Actually, in my late 30's my metabolism just seemed to change overnight!

I just bought some new athletic shoes that I'm hoping will help me exercise more consistently. The old ones were causing my feet and ankles to go out of alignment and I was having to have them adjusted at the chiropractor each time I went! I think I'll try to join in–but I'll have to give exact lbs. as my digital scale is pretty basic.

  5. Congrats!

That's an amazing loss for any week, but more so because of the holiday!

I need to buy a scale, but I'd like to join in on the weigh-in. I think I'd rather post it here, though, than on my blog.

  6. Just now getting time to get back on here and comment – great job kris and everyone! One week closer to Eclipse!

  7. I love the quote on changing our thinking. THAT is what I need to do.

WTG on losing over 4lbs, that is awesome!!

I did not lose or gain last week so that is good. 🙂

  8. great job Kris!! I lost 2 pounds, I think I will post here for the weigh-ins instead of on my blog. Way to go!!
