Weekly Weigh-In

Welcome to the Weekly Weigh-In! If you’re new around here or have just been lurking awhile, please know this isn’t just my chance to update my weight-loss; it’s also your opportunity to update yours. I’d love to celebrate or commiserate with you, whichever the case may be. Let’s encourage each other!

This week, it’s going to be commiserating for me. I am so frustrated! I gained 0.4 pound this week.

I ran in a 5K last Thursday. In total, I ran over 11 miles last week. I took a 20 mile bike ride on Saturday. I exceeded my calorie burn five out of seven days last week.

I didn’t log my calories consumed, but I ate the same kind of stuff I always eat, so I know the approximate calorie burn. I know that I probably exceeded my calorie budget a couple of days, but not by more than my calories burned.

I fully expected to lose at least a pound this week, but I gained.

This is the kind of thing that would have caused me to throw my hands up in frustration and quit a couple of years ago. Not now, though.  As frustrating as it is, I’m going to keep moving forward.

As Jillian (The Biggest Loser) says, “Keep doing the right things and your body has to respond.”

I’m going to keep doing the right things. Because it feels good to be strong. It feels good to be fit and healthy. And because I know, if I just keep putting one foot in front of the other, my body has got to respond and I’ll reach the goals I’ve set for myself.

Do or do not.  There is no try!

What about you?  Good, bad or ugly on the scale this week?

  1. As someone who has been on a plateau forever and a day, I can commiserate. But! You probably are building up muscle with all of that running and exercise, and muscle weighs more than fat. Even though I didn't lose very much when I first started CrossFit, I noticed a change in my body composition and moved down a whole size without losing hardly any weight. So take comfort in that if you can!

  2. I have been popping in on your homeschool blog since we started nearly 2 years ago and I love it! You are my go to girl for info and encouragement on all things homeschooling and momming in general. However, I hadn't really been following your fitness journey, really, so imagine my surprise when I logged on and saw you standing there in a cute workout outfit and WEARING A MEDAL!!! I mean, you think you know a person. Lol. I truly was so inspired and proud of all your hard work! Please don't let this week's weigh in discourage you at all, you've come so far already. I am at the beginning (again) of my fitness journey and have a long way to go. But I'm ready! And I look forward to reading about all your continued success! 🙂

  3. Thanks, Abby! That's really encouraging. I appreciate your comment!

Jenn — Ugh!! Plateau is such an evil word. I agree, though, I can tell the my body is still changing. I'll continue plugging away.

  4. I remember when you started this blog and mentioned it over on your homeschool one. I wasn't ready to work on losing weight then, but I am now. You are truly and inspiration. Wow, a medal even. I can't imagine enjoying running. Maybe I will get there. I'll be adding this blog to my list of ones to read on a regular basis.

I have just finished my first week of my journey. I've got a ways to go, but I'm determined to get there.

  5. How exciting, Allison! Oh, I have so been where you are. I remember when a friend of mine started her weight-loss journey. I watched — quit jealous, actually — but I just wasn't ready to start.

It took me about a year or so to be ready, but then I took off and had the success I'd never been able to achieve before. I pray that the same is true for you!

Oh, and, for the record, even just a few months ago, I never would have imagined that I'd enjoy running. I'm just as surprised as the next person. 😉

  6. Well done on your great running success – I'd agree with Jenn though you're probably gaining muscle – though I have to commiserate because seeing the number on the scale go up is just gutting.

I maintained this week – still 185lbs with 53 lbs to go.
