Weekly Weigh-In

It’s time for the Weekly Weigh-In!  How did you do?  I was very pleased, once again.  I lost exactly 2 lbs. this week, which is my weekly goal.  I wasn’t sure if I’d make it or not, since I had that surprisingly big number last week.  I’ve lost a total of 17.6 lbs. since beginning the week of Thanksgiving, so I’m very pleased with my progress so far.

This week, I also wanted to weigh-in on support groups.  I’ve been doing well with the support I’ve found here, as well as some IRL friends who are also working to lose weight and my very supportive family (I’ve been pleasantly surprised with how supportive my kids have been) and I’ve been losing enough each week to stay excited about staying committed to my goals.  So, when an IRL friend mentioned joining a Biggest Loser group that her church was starting, I debated over whether or not I should join in.

On the one hand, I’m doing well and have a good support system.  On the other hand, I’ve been at this for a couple of months now and it’s likely that I’m nearing the point where the “honeymoon is over” and I could use an extra push.  I asked my husband what he thought and, without hesitation, he said I should join.  He thought the extra support and motivation could only benefit me.  So, I joined.

Wow!  I was so motivated after the first meeting last night!  It was just what I needed.  Not only was the face-to-face support really encouraging, but there were some great ideas shared between the ladies at the meeting.  The best thing I learned was that there’s a local gym, supported by area Parks and Recreation Department, that is only $1 each time you use it.  No joining fees.  No contracts.  Just $1 whenever you go.  My friend and I are already planning to go two or three days a week and take the strength training class and work out on the Nautilus equipment — the one thing I’ve always really enjoyed about working out at a gym.

So, if you’ve got the opportunity to get IRL support — whether it’s an organized meeting or just a group of friends committed to getting together regularly for accountability — I encourage you to take advantage.  Support groups can be a great source of encouragement, inspiration and knowledge.

How was your weigh-in this week?  Be sure to post your weigh-in results so we can cheer with you or encourage you if it’s been an off week. Remember, I know we all have our weigh-ins at different times, so you can add yours anytime this week, just whenever you have your official weigh-in.  You can leave your results in the comments section or post about it on your blog and link up.  Just please remember to link directly to your weigh-in post so that we can all find it easy when we stop by to see how you’ve done.

Don’t forget the “Do or Do Not Challenge.”  I’d love to have you join me on this sixteen week weight-loss challenge.  We’re only in the second week, so it’s not too late to join!

  1. I lost a pound! Was happy with that. What is funny , though was that a woman in our church came up me on Sunday and told me I was beautiful that I must be loosing weight. Like I am sure she could tell. But encouragement just the way I need it. And I did feel beautiful on Sunday.

Kris again congrats! You are amazing! Enjoy your workouts!

  2. I have been following your blog, but just reading and not doing. =( I'm so proud of you that you're losing so much weight and really sticking with it.

What advice do you have for me? Working, newlywed, husband unemployed. I'm a public school teacher and a lay-pastor and a seminary student. I think I'm doing too much. I took off work today just for Mental Health re-charging, but it's not enough. I need to get off my butt and the motivation is all around me but I seriously dont know how to get myself moving.

    Thanks, Jasmine

  3. Kris your doing such an awesome job and you are truly inspiring!! I totally agree that haing the face to face support as well as the online support is so helpful!

  4. I'm glad you've been following along, Jasmine. It took me nearly a year of following along the weight loss of an IRL friend before I finally made the decision to do something about my weight.

It does sound like you're really, really busy, but I'd hazard to guess that exercise would probably make you feel better, rather than just being one more thing on your plate. I would think that the key for you would be to snatch little bits of exercise where you can, rather than trying to work in one long workout session.

It seems like one season on Biggest Loser, there was a week where the contestants were not allowed to work out more than 15 minutes at a time just to show them (and the viewers) that those little bits of time can make a big difference.

I would suggest trying to work in 15-20 minutes of walking twice a day and go from there. You can also sneak in little bits of activity by parking farther away when you go to the store or taking the stairs, rather than the elevator.

    Hope that helps!

  5. Congratulations! You are doing amazing! I wonder if my area has a gym like that, I would be all over it. $1? Oh yeah 🙂

  6. just found your blog, and will be joining in. i have about 60 lbs to lose (would love to lose 75 but that might be pushing it) and started last week and have lost 5 lbs. both my parents are diabetic, so i'm trying to prevent going in that direction. the only change i made this week (i usually work out 30 min/day for the past 6 months) was to cut out sugar.

keep up the great work and encouraging words!

  7. You've lost almost 20 pounds already! I'm really impressed! I'm even more impressed by your blog. I love your homeschool blog and this is just as good, if not better! You truly have a gift.
