Weekly Wrap-Up

Happy Friday, y’all! I hope you’ve had a great week. After a monsoon on Sunday, the week that I expected to be rainy and yucky has been beautiful and warm. I love fall. Of course, here in the south it doesn’t especially feel like fall yet.

It’s been a rather eventful week. Last Friday, Brianna’s boyfriend asked for and received our blessing to propose to her. (She knows so I’m not ruining any surprises.)

We’re so excited! He is such a great guy and perfect for her.

They haven’t dated long, but Brian and I didn’t date long before we got engaged either. They’re not talking about getting married any earlier than next fall. Hopefully, I’ll have an official engagement announcement soon.

Then, on Tuesday, Megan had her first in-car driving lesson (as opposed to classroom time – she’s been driving with her dad) in the defensive driving class she’s taking.

She had a wreck!

I totally thought she was kidding when she first called me. No, she wasn’t. The wreck wasn’t her fault at all and was completely unavoidable from her end. A kid on a bike veered in front of her and the instructor had to slam on the breaks (dual-controlled car). They were rear-ended by someone following too closely.

The other driver was very apologetic and assured her that she had no other options. She was very shaken up for the rest of the day.

My niece’s shirt cracked me up. I think all the females in the family need one!

Then, on Wednesday evening, Brianna was rubbing Belle’s belly and noticed that her incision where she was spayed last week looked infected. We’d been keeping an eye on it and it had been fine but, sure enough, it looked infected.

So, I had to take her back to the vet yesterday. They put her on a round of antibiotics and don’t expect her to have any trouble. The vet said the incision itself seems to be healing well.

This weekend, we’ve got a wedding on Saturday and a birthday party on Sunday. That’s a pretty busy weekend for the homebodies among us. It should be fun, though.

As far as school goes, everyone is plugging along. Josh was getting a little bored with the Java course he was taking so he spent some time on the C++ class this week. I’m glad we were able to purchase several classes so he has some options.

Those are the highlights of my week. Tell me about yours!

  1. Wow! Super excited for you all on the upcoming engagement. Totally cool that he asked permission first!

I hope Megan isn’t nervous about driving after the accident. What a crazy thing to have happen, but thankfully the kid on the bike didn’t get hit.

  2. Aww! Congratulations to Brianna! Our week has been pretty disorganized. This was our last week before our one week break next week, and we only got about 2 days of school in. Tuesday morning around 4:45 a.m. I ended up in the ER with severe pain that wouldn’t go away. Turns out I have gall stones (Last October I had a kidney stone. What is it with October??) Then they didn’t want to let me leave because my heart rate was racing the entire time I was there. Two IV bags of fluid and a dose of medicine stronger than morphine later, I was sent home after about six hours. So no school that day. The next day I did some school with my middles, but since my husband had taken the day off to help me, he decided to have a movie marathon starting at lunchtime, so that pretty much ended our school time then and there. Today I’m hoping to get one more complete day of school done, although if something else comes up, at least I can rest in the fact that my middle schoolers and high schoolers are going to a bonfire tonight with youth group. (Field trip alert!)

Anyway, after writing a blog post-length comment (sorry), I hope you have a great weekend!

  3. Congratulations!!!!
I have read your homeschooling adventures for years, in fact you were one of the big reasons that I got up the courage to start a blog myself. So thank you for that!
    …and Congrats again!

  4. Oh, your poor daughter! A wreck that early on would have left me shaken for weeks. I hope she’s able to get back into the car smoothly.

And I love your niece’s shirt!
