Weekly Wrap-Up

Happy Friday, y’all! Did you have a great week? Can you believe that we’re right here at the end of July already? I really need someone to explain to me how summer can pass so quickly. {sigh}

We’ve had a good week. Megan started her new job – and drove herself to and from! I’m not going to lie. That is nice. I mean, I know there’s my whole “baby growing up” and all, but I am not sad to retire my chauffeur hat.

Brianna and Dobby (the ferret) came up to visit for a few days. Sophie (our ferret) and Dobby were only together one night before Brianna took him home after we got her so I was excited for them to see each other. They both seem to like having another ferret to play with.

Sophie and her houseguest

Sophie is definitely in the right family, though. As much as she enjoyed having a playmate, I think she was just as ready to have her pen back to herself.

In super-exciting, never-thought-it-would-really-happen news, we got confirmation last week that our house is paid off!! We’re still waiting on all the paperwork, but no more house payments!

Now, we’re ready to start doing some much-needed home improvements. I’m thinking that our woefully out-of-date kitchen might be first.

I’m just thinking that this might be the reason Sophie doesn’t sleep as soundly as other ferrets.

In other super-exciting, but in a very different way, news, I am anxiously awaiting a delivery that may just change my life. Last week, when I went to pick up my groceries at Walmart, the lady who brought them out noticed my 38 pounds of cat litter. She started telling me about the automatic litter box she has called the Litter Robot.

I immediately came home and looked it up. Mine is supposed to be delivered today! All you cat-lovers out there can understand my excitement when I say no more scooping cat litter!! I’m way more excited about this litter box than a person ought to be. I’ll be telling you more about it after we’ve used it a few weeks.

I’ve got it on my to-do list to take photos of the curriculum we’ll be using in the upcoming year so that I can update my curriculum page and share it with you. I’m really excited about the new school year. Not excited like I’m ready to start tomorrow or anything. Just excited like it will be fun when it gets here.

What new (or old favorite) curriculum are you most excited about using next year?

I guess since August is right around the corner, I need to start thinking about when, exactly, we – you know, Megan, my only student, and me – are going to start school. I’m thinking mid-August. When are you starting?

Now, I’m off to enjoy the last relaxing weekend I’ll have for a couple of weeks. We have plans for the next two weekends. {sigh} I am such a homebody.

  1. Congratulations on paying off your house!
    I’m very interested in your new litter box. My husband does not scoop our box as often as I’d like and since it’s possible for me to get pregnant I won’t do it (we had this arranged before we got a cat).
    We are using all new-to-us curriculums this year. I’m excited that my 6yo will be able to watch and learn from some of the astronomy videos my senior will be watching. My 6yo is going to be using Cantering the Country as his main spine for all subjects except math and spelling. I love history and he already knows several states so I think this will be a great experience for us both.

    1. The Litter Robot arrived this morning. I am so excited! I just got it set up and the cats have been checking it out, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed that they’ll all start using it soon.

      Cantering the Country should be so much fun! I hope you have a great year!

  2. I will be stalking your page 😉, waiting for your “review” of the new litter box! The litter box not being cleaned when it’s supposed to be is the biggest conflict for our family of nine!

    We will start Paths of Exploration in a few weeks. With two 3rd graders and a 5th grader, all doing different curriculum, it has been a struggle. I am excited for some cohesion in our day!

    1. I bet you are going to LOVE Paths of Exploration! And the Litter Robot? It may just change my life. 🙂 {kidding – mostly}
